Gecko has been having trouble with gunky eyes. I have been popping her off the boob abd squirting some in her eyes to help her.

The doc said its viral conjuntivitus and so they cant give her anything but I have alwasy found that bm helps

well now dd1 has it, any reason why I couldn't put it in her eyes too?

I wouldn't see why not. Couldn't do any harm.

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/11/2007 14:18

it can't hurt - not sure it can actually help.. I think the immune link is when you actually drink the stuff.

Don't do it public though hey?

Try it and let us know! Wasn't there a thread about this once before?

3+1/2 years after ds stopped breast feeding and I still use breast milk on cotton wool if ds looks like he has a mild eye infection. In my humble non-medical opinion I don't see a reason for not using it if it works on minor (and I stress minor) eye ailments, especially when you know your dc won't take kindly to eye drops and ointments.

well the doc said that there isn't anything I could use that would helpa nd we just have to bathe and ride it out so I just thought that a little bm might help

I used it on the older ones when I was bfing - I'd put it on a piece of cotton wool first though.

MrsBadger · 27/11/2007 14:34

it does work squirted in, sagpuss - it has some 'topical' antibodies (IgA) as well as 'inside' ones

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/11/2007 14:44

I stand corrected , but the thought of squirting breastmilk in a toddlers eye does make me chuckle though!!

I know, I know, on cotton wool first!!!

TrinityRhino · 27/11/2007 15:45

oh no I wasn'r going to squirt her, she's 7 I don't think she would stand for it
I may even have to not tell her its bm cause she may be funny about it lol

i treated both dd's with ebm, normally 2 'doses' abd its gone.

MaeBee · 27/11/2007 19:27

it worked for my boys conjunctivitis! go for it. and report back.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/11/2007 19:29

I did it to my DS1 when he was 5. He said it didn't hurt. He wasn't twitchy about it, either.
