Fibroids and treatment

I'm 51 and have a merina coil. It's my third one in 14 years and it was life changing and stopped my heavy and long periods.

I have had some light spotting on and off for a year and when I went for my routine smear the nurse made me rearrange due to the light bleed. She told me to see my GP, which I did and she referred me for ultra sound.

I had my ultrasound scans on Sunday and my GP phoned yesterday to say they have found a lot of fibroids, two are particularly large at 9cm and 6cm. I'm now being referred to Gynaecology. When I asked how many I had got she told me it was a lot and a significant amount.

I have stopped bleeding and other than frequent need to pee, the only significant symptom is my increased weight and belly size, which I can't shift. I put these down to lockdown and my age but now wondering if it's the fibroids.

Anyone have any experience of fibroids and treatments and would be kind enough to share. TIA

Hi

I had one! It was the size of a cannonball. Horrifically heavy periods and the only option for me was a hysterectomy. For me - best thing ever!

@HotHointheavo, thanks for your reply.

Wow!! Did they say what size it was? Did your stomach bloat with it?

The surgeon literally told me it was as big as a cannonball!

I had tried a course of Esmya before to shrink it and just as the course was ending a warning came out about it causing liver problems. Luckily it hadnt affected mine, less luckily the fibroid had grown!!
Yes to the bloating but worst for me was the horrific blood loss

I understand the heavy bleeding, that was me before I had the merina. It literally was life changing.

GP thought they might try meds to shrink them first but I'll have to wait to see what gyne say. I want to be fully prepared with my questions for when I go.
