Hi ladies my doctor recommended Canesten thrush cream internal and external. I put the internal cream in last night and I have the worst stomach pain ! Has anyone else experienced this? I read in the side efffects list that it can cause stomach pain does does that mean something sinister like toxic shock syndrome or something ? Thanks ladies :( x

I can't use canesten at all. I was treated for second degree burns of the vag so that was loads of fun after using a pessary. Yet despite this any time I get thrush, I have to go thro major hoops to actually get flucanazole as the standard first line treatment is canesten and I am very hesitant to try it as I don't want a repeat of last time. Thats a not to be repeated event.

So the pains I had came directly from the burns but it was dismissed by the then GP as he claimed that it wouldn't cause this, I presented to a+e cause I knew something was wrong and that was the gynae conclusion that I had 2nd degree burns

Was this from internal cream ?

Canestan always stings when I use the cream or pessary, I always use the oral tablet now & my GP prescribed Daktarin cream but since if I get thrush I use the oral tablet & Vagisan with the local anaesthetic to numb the itching until the tablet starts to work.

Thank you. @Charlotteharknettx it was pessary was the main culprit but the cream I used on the outside wasn't as bad. But if the pain you are having doesn't settle down or gets worse, definitely seek medical help if it is made worse by using the cream and is better without the cream but still need to treat thrush

I took the internal pessary many years ago and it didn’t agree with me so I always buy the oral pill ( you take it with a glass of water) and it works really quickly and I use the cream for external use.
You can buy Canesten Duo at any Pharmacy and don’t need a prescription but it’s about £12.
They work great together .

I am allergic to Canestan, I always ask for Diflucan or the best us Nystatin oral over 30 days
