Wound healing/how long?

Hi all,

I had a silly fall this time last week, tripped over a cable and pulled an appliance over. It landed on my ankle and took a good layer of skin away with it, about an inch or so long.

I dressed it myself but it kept weeping, so I had the nurse check it mid week last week and she changed it again on Friday.

It seems to be healing very slowly, and is still extremely painful - as in I can feel it all the time, like my skin is crawling. It's tender all around and just generally sensitive/painful around the whole area.

Does anyone know how long a skin injury like that can take to heal? The nurse said a week or so but the pain is as bad as it was when I did it.

I know I could go back but she technically told me I could care for it myself now - I redressed it today after a shower and it's still red raw but doesn't look infected.

Any ideas for helping the healing process much appreciated!

I don't think you should be getting it wet and changing it so often.

Nurse said it was ok to shower but maybe I'll try to keep it dry for a few more days. How often would you change the dressing? Problem is the dressing sticks to it and I've taken off a layer of scab with it today....
