15 MONTH OLD - BANG TO HEAD AND VOMITED....

pucca · 27/11/2007 11:02

Yes it is me with ds again, think he is going to be one of those kids who are always hurting themselves, he has no fear...

Anyway, he has fallen off the sofa, onto carpet, but did go with a whallop, he then vomited pretty much straight away. I remember that vomiting after a bang to the head isn't good, he seems ok now though, what should i do?

Have tried ringing the GP but he is out until 2pm with home visits.

What other signs should i watch for?

TIA

yes, I think you should try to keep him awake. Ring NHS direct.

RubySlippers · 27/11/2007 11:04

vomiting is not a good sign after a head injury

is he drowsy?

TBH, and i don't tend to be be overly neurotic, i would take him to A & E

Think vomitting is a sign of possible concussion. Are his eyes focussing?
Try NHS direct 0845 4647.

This takes you thru a list of questions about head injuries in babies to determine how serious it is

numptysmummy · 27/11/2007 11:07

Take him straight in,better to be cautious. Be prepared to stay in for obs.

fryalot · 27/11/2007 11:08

I agree with everyone else, take him to A & E.

DD2 hurt herself last week and I took her to A & E and they said that vomiting once is ok, but repeated vomiting needs the 999 treatment. So, try not to worry too much, he is probably fine, but take him anyway.

pucca · 27/11/2007 11:08

He seems fine now, he is running around, up to usual dennis the menace tricks (like hitting the keyboard as i type) and seems quite happy.

a and E. They will probably just monitor, but you need it checking out

don't wait for the GP

EffiePerine · 27/11/2007 11:10

It's a good idea to get him checked out anyway - there could be some bleeding and the effects won't show until later.

pucca · 27/11/2007 11:10

I am always neurotic, but not sure about this one, he was sick once, pretty much immediately after the bang, he literally stood up and then vomited.

OP posts:
fryalot · 27/11/2007 11:11

take him.

They may well say that he is fine, but on the off-chance that they don't, take him. YOu are NOT wasting their time

pucca · 27/11/2007 11:12

Will take him to be checked out, thanks everyone, just wanted to check that i am not being OTT.

I work in a and e and from what you say it sounds like he vomited from the shock. We worry about head injury vomiting when it is persistant ie. more than twice as it can be a sign of something more serious going on in the head but an isolated incident is nothing to worry about.

EffiePerine · 27/11/2007 11:12

Hope all is well

cestlavie · 27/11/2007 11:13

I'd take him. DS slipped down steps at local pool a couple of weeks ago and banged his head. Spoke to NHS Direct though and one of things they said was that if he vomited at any time to take him down A&E.

AnAngelWithin · 27/11/2007 11:16

dd had a bang to the head recently and was awful for days after. but she wasn't sick. If she had been sick i would have taken her to a&e straight away.

AnAngelWithin · 29/11/2007 08:17

how is baby pucca now?

pucca · 29/11/2007 10:05

Hi, thanks for asking Angelwithin

He is fine, i ended up ringing NHS direct who said 1 vomit is ok,well expected from the shock but if he vomited anymore to take him to A&E, luckily he wasn't sick again, so i just kept an eye on him.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone
