My mother has just been diagnosed with mums, both my children have had the mmr and i had mumps as a child. However both dd and i have had a horrid cough and cold over the last couple of weeks and this appears to be a symptom of mumps?

Am i panicing or can you get it once immunised?

my dh had mumps this year dispite having it s a child. One side of his jaw swelled up huge.

There are loads of colds and coughs around at the moment - it doesn't necessarily mean you've had the mumps.

yes. It's usually mild in kids though. IN the past you would have been unlikely to get mumps again as an adult if you had it as a child as you would have had constant re-exposure from children infected with it, but now with much less mumps around naturally acquired immunity is more likely to wear off as well.

The success rate of MMR wrt mumps is not brilliant. ds1 has had the MMR and (he had an immunity test because we won't be giving the booster) has very low immunity to mumps, whereas measles and rubella immunity are fine.

How are you, puddytats?
