hi, after the birth of my daughter (now 4) i had a smear test and it showed abnormal cells, i attended the colposcopy clinic at local hospital and ended having some treatment, i was then to have a smear every 6 months for a few years. im ashamed to say after i got the all clear and everything was back to normal i cancelled my appointments and opted for the annual smear with my gp. a few months back i had to go to my gp as i was bleeding heavily ALL the time, for around three months i was bleeding for approx. 3 weeks then it would stop for a few days then start for another 3 weeks etc. i had a smear, urine and blood test and everything came back fine. it settled down but now im bleeding again although not nearly as heavily and it usually starts after sex. went to gp today and he is refering me to colposcopy. has anyone else experienced similar and what happened? im dreading going, i hate it! also, do you think gp has refered me as he suspects something and didnt want to say? he just said that the examination i will get there will be more thorough than a regular smear. i feel generally well and dont feel like there is something wrong with me.
p.s. apologies if i have colposcopy wrong!!!!

Hiya
Don't really know much about it, but my BF had this recently. She too was referred to colposcopy clinic and the doctor there wasn't concerned at all! He just muttered something to do with blood vessels on cervix being weak.

If your smear has come back fine then at least that is a bit less worrying!

Hope it's nothing, keep us updated.

hi olsmum, i had a lot of bleeding, hard to tell if it was period or not, and bled after sex. this was all after 2 lots of cells removed from cervix, one general and one local anesthetic. it was about 3 yrs after the last LLETZ/colposcopy i'd had. was ttc at the time so it was a bit tricky to work out dates, and smears were always fine. i have a weak cervix apparently and now i am pg (yea!) i may have to have a stitch put in the cervix to hold it closed so i can carry the baby to term (boo). i dread going to, i really hate it, and i hate the internal scans to look at my cervix through pregnancy, even though i am overjoyed that i am pg. my sister works in medicine and says that more women are inconvenienced by work on their cervix than you would imagine, but it is better than cancer. anyway theres a bit of information for you, good luck at the clinic.
