How to get a second opinion

I have a long term condition for which I am under a particular consultant.
For various reasons I am unhappy with him. I could tolerate fact that he hates me asking questions and generally just gives a metaphorical pat on the head and says "don't worry my dear" if I felt I was getting the best treatment but I don't.
I would like to see one of the other consultants in the team, how do I go about it? I could book to see him privately but I couldn't really go private long term as it's a lifelong condition.

Are there several Consultants specialising in your condition in the same hospital, can you share your illness and which health authority you are in, the Consultant will lead the team so may be the only one

Just ask. You can ask either the consultant himself or you could ask your GP. You ask by saying that you want to explore alternative treatment options with a 2nd opinion for your own peace of mind.

It's not uncommon for people to ask for a 2nd opinion, so don't be put off .

Thanks. There is a team of four consultants. I wouldn't mind travelling a bit but not too far as I need regular appointments.
It's Rheumatoid arthritis.
I would like to see one of this team who has been recommended to me.
I know that officially medics are supposed to be proffessional and accommodate the asking of second opinions but no way I could ask my consultant he would not like it one bit and ultimately I don't want to annoy him in case I end up stuck with him.
I will see my GP and ask them.
