DD had a week of, she had the op on a Monday and went back the following Monday, she probably would of been ok to go back on the Friday but that seemed pointless.

But, when it was ds who had his Grommets in and Adenoids out in the summer he was so ill he was back on o2 for two days and was back in his wheelchair for a fortnight.
I was probably over the top with dd by giving her a week of.

hi vvvq, I had this done when I was about 13 and had the op day off and the next day but after that felt fine.

If dc seems unwell keep them off but otherwise they will be fine.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/11/2007 21:21

okay - thanks. She's having them done on Wednesday. They dont know if they are going to remove adenoids yet - which i know complicates matters.

dd had both out and they said a week off school mainly (I think) because that is how long it really does take you to get over GA and also to avoid picking up infections or cold virus as you are more susceptible. But yes in herself seemed fine within a day or so.

flooplowder · 26/11/2007 22:07

Well then as she is 4 VVVQV, I would be inclined to leave her off school until monday, if it was me.

ds had grommits tonsils and adenoids and he was off school (nursery) for a fortnight

adenoids makes it all much more painful and a longer recovery - he didn't really eat properly until day 6.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/11/2007 22:12

oooh okay! thanks.

That's what bothers me minty.

I think from memory week 2 was half term though - he may well have been alright to go back one or two days earlier possibly, but it was good having the full 2 weeks.

also infection is a bigger risk after adenoids than tonsils because you just have a bigger wound (and the adenoids have a function of blocking germs coming down the nose so you lose that)

it was a great thing to do in all for DS though, completely fixed his hearing 100%, made his speech clearer, his eating easier, and no more sleep apnoea...

DD had grommets and adenoids "done" earlier this year and had to miss school for fortnight, she took only couple of days to recover and was climbing the walls when she was ready to go bck to school.

DS aged 4 yrs 9 months when he had grommets . Op on Monday back at school on Tuesday, was running round like an idiot a couple of hours after op.
