I've a very nasty rash all over my middle - what could it be?

It's been there for 2 days. It's like a heat rash but it's all over my middle up to my chest and quite itchy. I'm wondering if I now need to see anyone about it?

Nope doesn't hurt, but one of the pupils at the school where I work has been off with shingles. However I don't think it's that. The only new thing I've used is baby oil after a bath with camomile. I usually just have natural baby oil. Would it cause a rash just over my middle?

Might be an allergic reaction Rhubarb.

Can you take Piriton ?

Eurax cream is good for itchy skin.

Ta, I'm going to have another bath and I'll not apply anything, see how that goes.

I do have piriton around for my hayfever so I can take that if it becomes unbearable.

Are the spots pink or red? If so could be urticaria which is usually linked to a viral infection. Or have you taken any medicine? - a common allergic reaction to medication is a red rash.

Rhubarb · 26/11/2007 19:36

They're red, like a heat rash all over. No medicines taken.

Have you had a sore throat? I ask because ds1 has seen the doc today with a rash - which the doc said is probably viral.

Rhubarb · 26/11/2007 19:37

I've had chicken pox before and yes I have come into direct contact with the pupil, but looking at the descriptions of shingles, I don't think that's it. I've had this rash for 2/3 days now, it's not changed just not gone away either.

Hmmm, nothing I could mention colditz.

Do you feel OK in yourself? Are your glands swollen? I think its unusual for a rash to last more than a few days if it is urticaria. More info here NHS Direct urticaria. Visit to GP may be in order if its still as bad tomorrow!

colditz · 26/11/2007 20:02

Maybe you have just got a viral rash, and no other sympotms? I get them sometimes, usualy fetchingly splattered all over my decolletage.

Rhubarb · 26/11/2007 20:51

Thinking about it, I noticed it on Weds when I had a bath after a couple of cans of Caffreys and because I don't normally drink that I thought it was perhaps a reaction to that. So it's lasted 5 days!

It starts in patches under my arms, and a patch under my elbows, and it spreads from just under my boobs to the tops of my inner thighs, round the sides but not as far as my back. It looks orangey red like I've been on the sunbed too long. Any ideas?

I feel very down, but have started period. That's all.

It's exactly the same place as ds's rash. On his feet too.

pinkteddy · 26/11/2007 22:55

Rhubarb really think you should go to your GP. 5 days is a long time for a rash and it not to go down at all. Has it responded to the piriton?

colditz · 26/11/2007 22:59

ds1's rash looks just like scarletina

Miaou · 26/11/2007 23:01

Do you feel flu-ey at all, rhubarb?
