Hi lovely mums,
I had a terrifying experience yesterday when my healthy and strong nearly 5 year old little boy got very poorly. As you all know the weather was absolutely scorching . We had friends over and we made the mistake of letting the two little ones have their lunch with us on the patio which was far too hot. After leaving the patio they started to have a go on the water slide but after two goes my little boy just started to stare into thin air became unresponsive , floppy , threw up and shook for about 20 - 40 seconds. He was unable to talk and was in and out not really unconsciousness but more of a floppy state and not so floppy state. We jumped in the car and by the time we got to the hospital he could say his name and follow instructions and half hour later he can talk but was very tired. A few hours later when the tiredness wore off he was back to his super cheerful self. In the hospital they thought he might have hurt his tummy from the slide and they said it was a reaction to the pain. But I wasn't convinced and rang my friend who was an a&e nurse before she retired and she straight away said febrile convulsion. That kind of put my mind at rest as all the symptoms match up. After reading up on it it is mainly caused by fever but I guess they can also overheat from high air temperature. Did anyone else had similar experience when the febrile convulsion was from heat? Many thanks all!
