A good basic diet. Lots of fruit and veg, lean meat (if you eat it) low in fats and stick to complex carbohydrates, so low in sweet things..

the hospital/ gp should give a diet sheet though

complex carbs or those that arent "white" - yes?

Why do you have insulin resistance? If it's because of PCOS then Colette Harris has written some good books on the subject, here and here. Also there are some cook books around that are based on the Glycemic Index/Glycemic Load principles, here or here.

The South Beach Diet is supposed to be good for keeping your blood sugar under control, especially if you don't do the difficult first two weeks but go straight into the more maintainence part of the diet.

check out Releasing Fat by Ray Strand - so I don't get linched (??) he does promote products in it which you don't have to buy/take. It's main focus is insuline resistance, difference between glycaemic load and index, 'diet' plans and some recipes, he also references so recipe books (you would do as well to go to Smiths I bought one he recommended highly and was very disappointed but hten I love cooking and it was very convenience substitute food).

Dh lost 3 stone following his diet, bp, blood suga and cholesterol all reverted to normal levels having been very high.
