Irritated, dry & swollen eyelids

I've had a terrible problem with one of my eyelids for a few weeks. It started off very swollen (inner eye), I think possibly triggered by a small stye that I couldn't see just under my eyelid. Then the skin that had been swollen started cracking and was very dry. I've visited a chemist twice and the last time got an eyelid cleansing solution that I use everyday and advised to put a small amount of Vaseline on it. It's still sore, itchy and dry and swollen (though not as bad as it was). The other eyelid is also looking sore now. I don't have any infection in my eye.

Any advice? I'm actually wondering if the swelling is hay fever related - I've started suffering quite badly in the last few years and am taking one Loratadine a day but it isn't feeling that effective at the moment.

Obviously I can and will call my GP as it has been going on too long now but wondering if others have suffered similarly.

Thanks.

Could it be blepharitis? Try a warm compress to the eye and massaging the lids then washing out the eye. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi @WobblyLondoner I know this is an old post but just wondering if you found something that helped?
Sounds similar to what I’m suffering with atm. I think mine is hayfever related but never had them this bad before! Thanks x

Hello @Sunshine288, apologies - I didn't spot this. I did spend much of last summer doing the recommended things for blepharitis and was also using a mild steroid - between them it died down but I'm not convinced it ever went away. No swelling now but a sense of irritation under my eye and sometimes some dry red skin.

Sorry, not much help.

I’m jumping in too. Did you find anything as can see you’re recent! I’ve had one and now two inflamed sore itchy eyes. Was told blepharitis and given drops and steroid cream. I’m not convinced. It’s up and down. Mostly in inner upper eyelid. Think it’s a reaction but what on Earth to! Trying to elongate things but to no avail!

Elongate? Eliminate 😂

Hi @Slampunk i think mine is hayfever related so have been taking antihistamines daily! I’ve also been using a mix of cold and warm compresses. I usually do a cold compress when I wake up as this is when my eyes are the puffiest then I do a warm compress before bed. Morning and night I will clean my lash line with hot water and a cotton bud (different one for each eye obviously!) I’ve also not worn makeup as this seems to irritate my eyes now!

It hasn’t complete gone away but it’s definitely helped as it hasn’t been as bad as when I first posted here! Unfortunately for me it is still hayfever season 😢

Sounds like hay fever to me! Try oral antihistamines and sodium cromoglicate eye drops.
