Strange skin after cold bath

Does anyone know why my teenage son's skin would react like this after he's had a cold bath (for back pain). He's only in the water for a few minutes. It doesn't hurt or itch and lasts around 20-30 minutes. Covers his torso and arms and looks horrendous.

Cold urticaria springs to mind.

Cold urticaria (ur-tih-KAR-e-uh) is a skin reaction to cold that appears within minutes after cold exposure. Affected skin develops reddish, itchy welts (hives).

People with cold urticaria experience widely different symptoms. Some have minor reactions to the cold, while others have severe reactions. For some people with this condition, swimming in cold water could lead to very low blood pressure, fainting or shock.

No medical knowledge but seems likely

@DustyMaiden thanks so much for your reply. It seems like such an extreme reaction I'm worried about the shock aspect, especially if he is on his own (swimming or even in the bath if there's no one else at home) Worth getting him checked over I think. Appreciate your help, thank you x

Yes get him checked. I wouldn’t let him swim or take cold baths until you do. It’s like being allergic to something you have to avoid it.
