Sonographer comments are worrying me.

I've just left the hospital following an ultrasound which was booked just over a week ago because I am experiencing pain in my left side and back. The suspicion was gallbladder. I've had blood tests which were mostly ok but showed inflammation according to the doctor and today I had the ultrasound (including internal pelvic). Of course I've managed to convince myself that there may be something more sinister than gall stones. Doctor Google and his gallbladder information doesn't totally describe what I've been experiencing. So before I left I asked the sonographer if she could tell me what she'd seen and she said she's "still deciding". That she would send the results to the doctor who would discuss them with me. So I know it might be a "go to" response but never the less I'm worrying. What can she have seen that she needs to decide about? I'm going to worry over the next few days until I can call the doctor again to see if they've had the results. Any ideas? Reassurance please?

She's not allowed to tell you there and then so it's definitely a stock response that means absolutely nothing xx

@Daftness sorry you’re having pain 😔 I’ve been through gallstones and gallbladder removal and it was awful! As for the sonographer - it’s probably just been a stupid comment that she’s not even thought about! I don’t think they’re meant to discuss it with you - it gets sent off to the doctor to review the images. When I went for my gallbladder scan the sonographer placed the probe on my side and gave a loud “Ohhhhh” then went silent and just kept telling me she’d sent the report to my Gp whenever I asked what she could see 🙄

Gallbladder is on the right.

Immaculatemisconception · 06/07/2021 17:48

I’m sorry you’re going through this worry. Nothing anyone will say can offer you the reassurance you seek, only seeing the doctor can do that. Just make sure you are seen ASAP. 💐🤞

@CharityPecksniff

Gallbladder is on the right……………………

My large and small intestine are in each others place and my appendix is on the left…. ConfusedGrin

Daftness · 06/07/2021 20:50

@MilkAndBiscuits - how on earth did you find that out?

@DaftnessDaftness

I had horrendous stomach pain
They done a scan in A&E and there it was :)

No-one can believe it wasnt noticed before i was mid 30’s , normally a baby with the malroatation would become poorly and it would get found and surgery completed before they were a year

There were going to reverse the intestines but its major surgery and potentially a complication could mean to be fed through a tube so decided against it ….

When i explain this to a medical professional , very few have ever heard of it

MilkAndBiscuits · 06/07/2021 20:57

Majorly outed myself so off for a name change GrinGrinGrin

Tinpotspectator · 06/07/2021 23:43

Gallbladder is not always in the right. Mine isn't. When I was scanned fir it, the inflammation was in fact cholecystitis, which is an inflammation of the gallbladder. It was bloody painful!

Bluesheep8 · 07/07/2021 14:16

She shouldn't have said anything. It's not up to her to 'decide' anyway, she is paid to do the scan and probably trying to sound as though she has more knowledge than she actually has.
The scan pictures should be examined and assessed by specialists. Taking the pictures is her specialism.
As you can tell, this has happened to me with speculation by a sonographer Hmm

Just an update - results are back, nothing sinister! Have 4 small cysts on liver and small amount of gallbladder sludge, gallbladder shape is irregular and slightly large. Blood tests were all good. Being referred to gastroenterologist but not classed as urgent (which is good). Likely that this has all come as a result of crash dieting on an ultra low fat diet. 😬
