Frequent hiccups in an 8 yr old

Dd2 seems to constantly have the hiccups.

She has had them 3 times today and most days she has them at least once and it is starting to get on her nerves.

Is it a sign of anything at all, or just one of those things ?

My ds gets them if he laughs a lot. On the other hand my sister always has them a lot if she is about to go down with a cold. Don't know if this is significant, though.

I had hiccups a lot as a child - my mother even got me some homeopathic remedy to take when I got them (which actually worked, placebo or not!) because they were sometimes painful.

Forty years later, no indication of them having meant anything

Oh thats good then. A friend just suggested that aybe she is not digesting her food properly or rushing her food, which might be right as they always seem to occur about an hour after a meal.

Mine were after meals, too - and I did, and do, eat too fast. But other than a hiatus hernia, courtesy of dd1 (when I was pregnant with her, that is) my digestion is fine now.

The French side of my family were convinced it was to do with my liver, and banned me from eating ice cream and butter for a while...but then again the French think just about everything is to do with the liver
