I have been really suffering with what I think is this for a few weeks now. I’ve been to the dentist several times as I keep managing to convince myself my back teeth are decaying/cracked. Nothing found. I have pain on biting, earache, toothache, tinnitus, headaches, burning teething feelings around my wisdom teeth (not erupted) and my back teeth and bite feel all wrong on one side. The dentist has given me a mouth guard for nighttime & advised me to eat soft food for 2 weeks but it’s painful and miserable & I’m feeling really low about it. Please tell me what it’s like for you, how you’ve relieved the pain, or even better cured it?

I've had all the same symptoms as you for nearly 9 months now. The pain has very much improved but I still have tinnitus and my bite is still not what it used to be. I saw a physiotherapist who did some work on my neck and jaw and a few sessions of acupuncture. This was the point where the pain started to improve so I can only attribute it to the acupuncture. Maybe just time as well. I sure wish the tinnitus would go now though!

I also saw a maxillofacial consultant who works at my dentist practice and he gave me a jaw exercise to do once a day for 1 minute which I've been doit religiously for 4 months now. Maybe that has helped too.

Oh powder I’m sorry you’re going through it too. It’s just horrible & is taking over for me at the moment. I can’t concentrate at work and just feel I am a misery to be around right now. Is the exercise the one where you put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and open your mouth?

Yes that's the one. Your tongue needs to touch the roof of your mouth as far back as you can curl it then open and close your mouth. He said just one minute a day is all you need. I think it's helped. It's definitely not done any harm!

I feel for you. I hardly found anything that could help. I used a hot wheat bag over the winter but more as a comfort thing than because it helped. I started thinking that it could be trigeminal neuralgia but that didn't fit with the misaligned bite/muscle tension.

Hey guys! How are you now ? @Waxlyrically & @Pinkpowderpuff . Has the tinnitus gone ? Mine had been nad again for weeksn not sure what to do :( ear pain and eat fullness ! Xx

Waxlyrically · 01/11/2021 22:16

Hi Starr mine has been quiet just lately and my mouthguard definitely helps with the tooth and jaw pain. The soft diet was a pain but it eventually seemed to allow the swelling to die down. My tinnitus and blocked ear keep flaring up though and I think I have some kind of low grade infection there.

@Waxlyrically thankyou for your reply! Im glad things got better for you! So is the tinnutus constant now or just whenever it flares up? My ears are driving me crazy!!! Just wanna wake up and all these symptoms be gone xx

Starrr123 · 02/02/2022 18:57

@Waxlyrically hi! Sorry to mesage? How is your tinnutis now ? And the ear pain? Xx

Waxlyrically · 02/02/2022 19:12

@Starrr123 no problem. My earache is fine but I think a low level of tinnitus is here to stay. How are you doing?

Glad the pain has gone :)
Im not sure if the medication is making my tinnutis worse :( ive been on amatriptyline and its so loud. My ears also keep popping.
Did you get tooth pain with the tmj? Its getting me soo low and down xx

Starrr123 · 02/02/2022 19:37

@Waxlyrically xx i forgot to tag u xx

Waxlyrically · 02/02/2022 20:30

@Starrr123 yes I did but I think nightly tooth grinding was the cause of that for me. I’ve starting wearing a mouthguard at night and it seldom happens now although my jaw still clicks and is misaligned. It’s miserable though isn’t it when it flares up. I think stress is also a big part of it for me but it’s not possible to remove all of that from your life! I hope you get some relief soon. Have you got a mouthguard?
