Saw my GP yesterday about a lump on my neck and now convinced myself it’s something sinister :(
Been referred for ultrasound and blood tests but panicking so much - first noticed the lump last year but ignored it as we were in lockdown etc.
Life is good right now after a few hard years, new job, met someone, my mind is racing at the thought of it all going wrong now :(

I know l’m over reacting but if anyone has some good outcome stories l really need to hear them.

I don’t have any stories but you’ve done exactly the right thing seeing the gp and they will check it out extensively. Even if it is something more worrying, it sounds like you have got a nice partner and job etc to support and care for you so you are in a great position.

Do you feel ok in yourself otherwise?

It could be a cyst, OP. If so, you'll be referred to a dermatologist, who will drain it and remove the sac, as long as it's safe to do so. (That is, not too close to the spinal cord.)

If you have other symptoms fatigue, fever, aches it could be glandular fever. Unlikely, however, as you say you've had this lump since last year.

Thanks Ladies, so worried still, booked a private scan for Tuesday.

@ChakaDakotaRegina, only met the man recently and as lovely as he is, l don’t and wouldn’t expect him to stick around if it’s anything serious 😢

I do feel ok in myself mostly, not sure if l’m just imaging an ache in my neck 😢

Can’t believe l was so stupid in ignoring it for months 🙁

Has it grown much ?
Could it be a lymph node.

kimlo · 27/06/2021 12:51

where on ypur neck is it?

friendlymum67 · 27/06/2021 13:38

@DinosaurDiana I’m not sure to be honest. It definitely hasn’t grown much tho

@kimlo Lower neck - on what l would describe as the necklace line - if that makes sense?

looks like you are in the same position as me then, just a couple of weeks behind and I don't actually have a lump you can see or feel.

I already knew I had a retrosternal multibodular goiter. A us for something else flagged one of the nodules up as being suspicious because it had internal blood flow and the reflectivity of it. Because I was already under endo my gp said that we could disregard it. Anyway I ended up having another us and was refered to ENT under the two week wait.

ENT want it biopsied and thats what I'm waiting for now.

Most lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about, and thyroid cancer has a good recovery rate and it's slow growing.

friendlymum67 · 27/06/2021 14:03

@kimlo Sorry to hear you’re in the same position. Stupidly l have googled all sorts of things 🥴

Do you have any other symptoms?

I have swollowing issues, but nothing that I hadn't thought was just annoying.

Just a waiting game for the biopsy now. I was told it wouldn't be long but it's been nearly 2 weeks now, so 4 weeks after the gp refered and still no appointment. I'm starting to get a bit stressed with the waiting.

I have a lump on my collar bone which is very smooth and mobile under my fingers. It's a lymph node that got swollen when I had glandular fever about 25 years ago. And my son has had a lump on his neck since he was born which is also just a prominent lymph node.

Try not to panic or overthink.
