Hi, my son is 4 but within the last year I’ve had an achy leg, foot and hip. When I was pregnant i had horrid spd. I went to a chiro who told
Me my pelvis was twisted/rotated so it’s giving a short leg impression which is causing my foot, leg and hip pain. He sorted me out but I started to wear sandals and noticed it started to hurt again I wonder if it’s how I walk! I’m in pain today with it! My butt hurts and knee today 😫 doctors fobbed me off with restless leg or sciatica so I went to a chiro. Anyone got any advice

Why did you think that sciatica was a "fob off" rather than a diagnosis?

Did you feel your spd more at the front or the back?

A spiky ball or foam roller over your piriformis muscle to loosen it might help both with feeling one sided/shorter leg, and with the sciatica.

There are instructions and videos online.

Go back to your chiropractor. I had the same thing, had to go back a few times over a couple of years. Do the exercises they suggest (I am rubbish at this).

Don’t feel like the sharp zap pains so didn’t think it was sciatica. I do have a roller and I used it other day and maybe it’s caused it to hurt more maybe haha. I had spd at front like when I used to turn in bed it would kill I sleep with a cushion in between my legs now

I had this, a couple of things

Be really really specific about the shoes you wear. I only wear vionics with very good arch support

Only carry kids and heavy things close to you and in the middle

Stretch your arse muscles and leg muscles every day morning and evening

Start doing pilates

Find a really good massage therapist for when you just cant get it unlocked.

For me it was the weight of carrying the kids on my right hip, overused that side and my arse muscles tightened, this tightened down my back and leg and pulled the hip out. The trick is to stop the muscles before they make it bad

Oh btw. Its called a rotated sacro iliac joimt

Thank you! I got some shoe insoles. See I carry on left side and it’s right side that’s affected but I guess if I’m Leaning on left side it will pull my right side out. I’m a childminder now so always lifting children 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

A great massage therpaist taught me a couple of good tricks

Stand straight and feel the front of your hip bones. There is a corner knobbly bit that stick out in each one. They should be pointing at the same angle. If they are not then you have an rotation.

To try and straighten it…and pleas be careful with this as im just an internet random and havent actually diagnosed you!

Lie on your back on the floor! Knees bent feet on the floor.
Link your hands around the knee of the hip joint that is rotated higher
Push your knee into your hands and use your hands to resist the pressure. Imagine your thigh bone is a 10 ft pole and the far end of the pole is the bit your are pulling on (sounds weird but it activates he deeper muscles)
Hold for 15 seconds, then relax and do it again

In between try a figure 4 stretch. While lying on your back, cross your ankle over the opposite knee. Then you want to use your straight leg to torque in the bent leg to stretch the butt muscle. You can do this in a couple of different ways depending on what suits your body
You can tilt your pelvis away from you nose
You can raise the foot that is on the floor onto tip toes
You can use both hands on the ankle and knee to pull both legs in their crossed position gently towards your nose
A combination!

The last thing I do is use a softer foam roller to roll my lower back and butt muscles, also try to get your IT band but that is hard to get into position for. Look at youtube videos for how to do that.

Take ibuprofen at night and get a thick foam topper for your mattress

Hope you can get it loosened up, if you are lifting children all day, you are going to have to work at loosening your muscles like mad
