Hi all, for the past few months
I've been suffering from stomach pain just under my ribs. I initially thought I had a stomach bug as I had bad diarrhea followed by dehydration, but unfortunately the pain decided to hang around. The pain started on my left hand side just under my boob and radiated through my back, then in the middle of my breast bone. Went to the Dr, had a feel around and said I was fine. He also sent me for a helicobactor and test result showed I was mid range. The pain eventually went away after I started probiotics, but now it's come back. I'm not sure if certain foods are triggering it. I'm keeping away from fried food. I'm not sure if it's associated with ovulation...I'm at my wits end, I've felt really good for over month or so and now the pain and discomfort are back....any thoughts....thanks

If it were the right side I'd say gallbladder. Though your pancreas is over that side and often affected by gallbladdery issues.
I've got gallstones now, and had h.pylori about 15 years ago. The h.pylori was more like constant gastritis and heartburn irrespective of what I ate.
Not sure what you mean by mid-range, it's a bacteria which is either present or not. Did the doc explain what he meant by that?

ImaHogg · 21/06/2021 10:59

I have been getting this too, it’s horrible op. It is in the middle of the breastbone and radiates through to my back too. I also burp a lot and get an acidy gut and feel really queasy. I think it is much worse mid cycle, and then again before my period. I really think my hormones are out of whack and making it all so much worse. I am late 40’s though so probably in perimenopause which is probably exacerbating it.
My gp has organised for me to have a stool test for h pylori which I’ll do this week.

NCnotmyusualone · 21/06/2021 11:25

Have they treated your H pylori?

Beezkneezhoney · 03/07/2021 21:55

@geamhradh.. so from memory the pylori test is between 0-200, and my results are smack bang in the middle at 100. My doctor won't treat it at that range. ( I'm.in Australia, so testing might be diff to the UK).

@ImaHogg, how you got your results back?

No, I need to go back in August to get tested again.

My Dr told me that IBS is a catch all / no other diagnosis for general digestion issues.
And then he diagnosed me about 2 years ago.
I get crippling, stabbing pain in my stomach/intestine area. It doubles me over and I can hardly breathe. Lasts a few minutes then settles for a bit. I take buscopan to deal with it and monitor my diet. Usually dairy/fat related (sadly!).

Never had an issue with pain in chest or back area though, I believe the pain is generally lower?

ImaHogg · 04/07/2021 09:14
@ImaHogg, how you got your results back?
Came back ok (not that my gp has bothered to ring and explain, I found it on my online medical records just says results = N/A which I assume is ok?)
So I am back to square one.
I have made some enquiries with some local private hospitals. I can’t afford it but need to talk to a gastroenterologist as my gut issues are taking over my life now.
I hope you manage to get to the bottom of this. Digestive issues are horrible.

MagicSummer · 04/07/2021 09:34

I do feel sorry for you and hope you can get to the root cause of your problem.

I have had gut problems since I was 24 (now in my 60s) following a horrible case of food poisoning. So many types of food give me pain in the gut followed by bouts of diarrhoea which just wipe me out. I just have to stick with chicken and fish which is so boring! I do think that nerves and anxiety make IBS so much worse - I have a bad bout this weekend and feel really miserable - but I am very stressed out at the moment.

Sorry, just a ramble but I do sympathise.

How old are you?
Does this happen during ovulation?
Do you have stomach problems when on your period?
I have severe endometriosis of the bowel and this sounds similar.
Track your cycle.
And keep a diary of all the stools you pass. Do you pass blood mucas?

Sorry to jump in on this thread but can I ask how you were diagnosed with endometriosis? I have had gynae issues for years (uterine polyps, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts sometimes chocolate cysts), lots of pain and discomfort mid cycle/ovulation time and before and during period. I have also had IBS for 23 years and it’s all getting worse since hitting 45 (I am now 48). Two years ago my sister had an emergency op as a large tumour was found on her ovary, turned out to be endometriosis. I do wonder if my issues are related to endometriosis too but after 6 years under the gynaecology department it has never been suggested!
Cookiebox · 08/07/2021 18:56

Hi @ImaHogg

I got diagnosed in a not so normal way. I was admitted to hospital with a severe bowel infection and when they looked at my intestine they discover holes/scars, thickening, weakening etc through a colonoscopy
This was due to endometriosis which was confirmed in an MRI.
Plus all my other issues it was then confirmed as endo

My sister also has endo and it does seem to be linked.

When I was around 20 they fobbed me off with IBS but it's not.
I get such bad symptoms I get a fever, severe sickness and diarrhea, blood, mucas etc the pain is unbearable. It's like the worst case of food poisoning. This happens during my period and ovulation

My periods are not an indicator of endo they aren't very heavy and they are regular.

However my bum and intestine and bladder feel like they're on fire during my period.

Please do Ask me anything if this helps x

Cookiebox · 08/07/2021 18:56

And in my experience gynaes are shit

ImaHogg · 09/07/2021 16:59

Cookiebox thank you so much. I totally agree, IMO and after being under the gynaecology department for the last 6 years I agree most gynaecologists I have met are crap and uncaring.
Do you know if endometriosis would be picked up during a ct scan? I had one 2 years ago but no mention of endo?!
