Rest your head on an ice pack. I find this helps me a lot more than painkillers x

Thank you I will try this. Feel so horrible just now.

For my migraines I take magnesium at the first sign, with paracetamol and ideally a caffeinated drink, plus salty snack. If it then gets bad and the headache kicks in, stronger painkillers plus an ice pack. Sometimes I can find a spot on my head that eases the pain if I rub it (depends what has caused the migraine).

Not much helps for the postdrome though apart from rest, water, time and compliance with whatever my stomach is craving.

Imigran/own brand sumatryptan is the only thing that shifts a proper migraine for me. You need it prescribing initially but then in emergencies can buy it OTC.

Mzy123 · 20/06/2021 20:16

Co codamol and ice pack, they type you use for sprained ankes or frozen peas directly to your head as long as you can. Hellish things migraines, you have my sympathy.

For now try a can of coke, they can help. Try and sleep.

After this go to your doctor and ask for proper medication. Sumatriptan works well for me, plus I take a daily amitriptyline for prevention.

I take zomig spray but it's prescribed by my doctor and I take it at the first sign of an episode starting. If your prone to regular migranes see your doctor.

Sit with your chin tucked into your chest and stretch your neck as far as comfortable

Veryverycalmnow · 20/06/2021 20:33

I sometimes find putting an ice pack on my head and then putting feet in a very hot bath can shift things a bit. I'm surprised by the suggestions of caffeine. I always avoid caffeine with headaches and go for water but maybe this is something I need to try.

Fifilorax · 20/06/2021 20:44

@Veryverycalmnow the caffeine thing can definitely be hit and miss! Some people find it really helps but for others, they have to avoid it or it makes it worse!

Relpax....hard to get here in uk....i buy it in turkey when i go there....it works fast and very effective.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 20/06/2021 21:14

Sumatriptan has been my saviour today.
On/off headache, then bam into a migraine (light, movement, noise sensitive with the added bonus of nausea).
I also find really cold water running over my wrists can sometimes help.

SunnySideDownBriefly · 20/06/2021 21:20

Yes, you've got to slam it! I go with a glass of cold Pepsi Max (Caffeine), two aspirin in water (dispersable) or Sumatriptan/Rizatriptan if it's gone too far, chocolate buttons (sweet) and some Hula Hoops (salty).

Then rest.

Stay away from screens. Drink plenty. Cold wet flannel on head.
Consider speaking to gp about triptans.
