Coming off HRT, any advice?

I've been on it for a couple of years after having to have both ovaries removed.

My GP was too timid to prescribe it at first, so I was plunged into a surgical menopause which was ghastly. Felt better within hours of putting the first patch on.

So I dread the weaning process, but really should do it some time soon.

Any advice from those who've done it?

TIA

hi , can i ask why both ovaries removed? did you have cysts? i ask as i am having op in a few weeks to have cysts removed from both ovaries and there is a chance i may lose both ovaries too.

My friend has now gone through the menopause and she said that the best thing for hot flushes was sage tablets, which you can get at most health food stores.

I had a cystic tumour on one and when they operated on that, they found severe endometriosis.

If it had been a simple cyst they would just have removed it and left me with some ovarian tissue. Hope they can do that with you, DF.

Anyone ever come off HRT patches?

Yes I came off patches after 9 years on them. Started taking them in my early 40s as hot flushes and worst of all, fainting fits due to hormonal swings. Came off them as had read 10 years was really the safe limit, although some say 5.
Flushes came back within a couple of months unfortunately, although not as bad as before and no fainting.
Tried a variety of things, sage, red clover etc etc but can't say noticed any real improvement and got fed up of spending money in the health food store!

Thanks Wensley
