He's only 19mo and was prescribed one yesterday however i almost have to force it against his face which i hate doing. I've tried to play with it and show him 'how mummy is doing it' but he just hates it.

Anyone else had to do this, any tips?

DS has a teddy spacer as well

he has got slightly more used to it - it is horrible to force it

think that that the other Ruby's idea is good - let him put it on your face too

Thank you i'll sit and play with him before the next attempt and show him with teddies etc.
He really needs it right now too and i just feel awful trying to force him, to the extent that just one gulp of it is enough.
Poor baby

you could try getting him to put stickers on spacer and pretend giving it to a teddy to make the cough better. Can you get him to breathe in and out through his mouth? If so you could ask the doc for a spacer with a mouthpiece rather than a mask , babyhalers are good as well as they require less inspiratory effort to deliver the inhaler to the lungs. the national asthma campaign have a good website for info.

I sympathise totally When ds1 was a similar age and prescribed one temporarily, I resorted to giving him chocolate buttons before and after every dose just to associate it with something good.

Didn't work completely, but did help a bit.

We put stickers on our spacer and made a bit of a game out of it...used to say ds was thomas the tank engine puffing away. Sorry no more help, ds didn't like it much but he did get used to it.
