Post op blues

I’m sure this is common/normal?
One day I feel great
The next I feel completely miserable!

One day I can’t wait to get my normal life back
The next day I just want to sleep all day

I have put on a lot of weight which doesn’t help me! I feel like no one understands as they are all out having fun and I am stuck at home most of the day bored 😂

When I had to have a fairly big op on my arm a few years ago I remember feeling very down afterwards. I was so shocked, as I thought I would be so relieved & happy once the op was done. My lovely dear departed mum was a theatre sister for 40+ years, and she told me that post op blues was a very common thing experienced by lots of people. According to her your body has lots of challenges & trauma to deal with after an op, including processing the by products of all the drugs left in your system (as well as the more obvious psychological effects of being ill / incapacitated etc).

Mum told me to have lots of rest, lots of fluids, to take my pain meds & be patient & I would get there sooner or later. She was right - wise old bird.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks this makes a lot of sense and thanks for replying
I think everyone else thinks I should be out enjoying myself as off work but I really don’t feel in the mood that often and it’s too hot and I am tired even though I haven’t done anything!

I'm in the same boat. It's hard isn't it?
Normally I'm really happy puttering around at home, love reading, crafts, bit of tv, jigsaws, baking...
Post op I just can't settle. I'm tired of course. But even so, I just can't be bothered. I make myself have a slow walk every day to get out the house, but I'm just so listless.
Everyone says "oh wow so much time to do all those hobbies you lucky thing!" And all I want is to feel back to normal.

Hope you recover soon Smile
