Are there any Drs on here that can tell me why mine has given me antibiotics?

It seemed to make sense in the surgery but now all I can remember is blah blah blah.

Basically I went in with a cough that has been very persistent for a about a week and a half especially at night. I'm coughing for an hour continually and then on and off every hour or so. During the day it's on and off. It does follow a cold and the cough has gone from chesty to tickly and it's the constant tickle I can't shake. It's keeping me up all night and no cough mixture is working.

He prescribed AB and said that blah blah blah we'll try that first if it hasn't cleared in a week we'll give you an asmatha (sp) pump to try. I haven't got a chest infection so is he right to prescribe me AB? I don't want to take them if they're not necessary.

Thankk

Could it be chest infection/virus that has caused cough?

I've had abs before for that on top of extra inhalors etc (am asthmatic) cos can't clear cough without clearing infection.

Thanks for your post. It's not an infection. That's the one thing I do recall him saying. I guess it could have been some viral chest thing, there does seem a lot of it about. I seem to be the only one plagued with this irritating cough though. It's annoying cos it gets significantly worse in the evening and over night.
