is this normal?! am due to go for a scan on thurs morning to assess why its lumpy when doctor felt my tummy 9she thinks its fibroids). also periods becoming more and more scarce- 13 weeks in between periods that i suspect arent even periods at all. but over the last 3 or 4 days i have been having periody type pain, almost like early labour (not period as that was 2 weeks ago now) . am actually doubled over in pain now. what can i do? is this meant to be happening??? oh god it huuuurrrrts

ok - worth asking i thought!

my fibroids necrotised during my first pg and it was agony. it is not impossible the same could be happening to you now.

i would try a heavy duty painkiller, e.g. ibuprofen with codeine (can you even get that?) or paracetamol and codeine. if the painkillers don't help and if the pain is still that bad i would go to a&e or your emergency doctor service.

good luck.

bossykate · 20/11/2007 17:20

ok take something now and go to a&e as soon as your dh gets back. poor you

belcantavinissima · 20/11/2007 17:20

what does necrotised mean?? it sounds painful

Are you bleeding?

hayCHingleBells · 20/11/2007 18:37

Did you have natural childbirth with your dc?
Any of them sections?

What painikllers have you taken today?

mazmack · 20/11/2007 21:03

I'm afraid I can't tell you what is wrong..but I had massive fibroids (which were removed in '05) and I had episodes of tremendous pain, for which I ended up in hospital..they never really got to the bottom of this, but I haven't had such pain since, so I think fibroids can cause a lot more pain than people believe. I just went to hospital when I was in severe pain, and noone ever belittled me or didn't take me seriously - if you are in so much pain you feel sick and are doubled over it needs seeing to, and noone would EVER blame you or not take you seriously for seeking help for it, at A and E or with out of hours GP.

belcantavinissima · 20/11/2007 21:33

hi all, thanks for your messages. it has eased off over the evening but just starting to twinge again now so am off to bed and hopefully i can sleep through it. no i'm not bleeding at all. i have 3 dc, the first was an induced forceps delivery with massive pph. the 2nd was elective cs (for obvious reasons!), 3rd was induced but then 'natural' labour and delivery. i had a fibroid when pg with dc2 but it kind of disappeared as he grew- i think he must have squashed it out. never had them since. when i was in the bath this evening i was prodding around and you can feel loads of lumps. bleuugh. under masses of flabby tummy but definitely there.
i guess i will just have to see how i feel in the morning and i only have to wait til thurs morning for the scan and hopefully they will be able to tell me more.
mazmack- what happened to yours? did you have them removed?

OP posts:
mazmack · 20/11/2007 21:48

yes,in march 05-8 of them, some 20cm across- and had my dd in oct 06 so well worth it.

hayCHingleBells · 20/11/2007 21:54

I had some endometriosis, that was displaced during my section (3yrs previous) and had been sat there happily growing in the upper layers under my skin. I think it was lodged accross muscle and skin and fat.
I never even knew i had endometriosis!
That was really painful towards the end.

I had it removed.

Id be suprised if you can feel the fibroids, they are very deep, unless they are very large.

I could feel the endometriosis lumps though.

saltireflyingatHampden · 20/11/2007 22:02

I have fibroids, although mine were (are, they're still there) different in that I was in agony with very heavy periods. it got to the point where I was changing jeans and knickers 2 or 3 times a day. I would be crawling on the floor as it was so painful i couldn't walk. Once DH was away and my period started. I had to phone my neighbour, who I was CMing for as well to come from work. I couldn't move, I had got DS1 to bring the phone into the kitchen, wehre I was in a bent over position over the sink and called her. 3 times in one weekend I was at the A&E, the pain and the bleeding was so bad

Like Haychee says I would be surprised if you can feel them, I can't feel mine,a nd since Is tarted on teh depo injection it has really helped - no epriods, no pain

fortyplus · 20/11/2007 22:05

This might be helpful

Hope you feel better soon

mazmack · 21/11/2007 06:03

you can feel fibroids if they are on the outer wall of the womb, all of mine always were. the ones which cause heavy bleeding are on the inside and cant be felt

bossykate · 21/11/2007 10:29

how are you today?

belcantavinissima · 21/11/2007 11:34

bit better thanks, well alot better. thank you for asking. i got woken up by dd at 5am (grr) and it started twingeing then when i woke up and it has on and off this morning, but soooo much better than last night.

bossykate · 21/11/2007 11:38

good luck for your scan tomorrow. do ask their advice on how best to manage the pain. i got some heavy duty codeine for mine - bliss no wonder people get addicted to the stuff!

bossykate · 21/11/2007 11:39

and i was pg at the time! surprised they gave it to me actually. i bet they thought i would lose him - he's 6 now

belcantavinissima · 22/11/2007 12:40

UPDATE!

just got back from my scan, which revealed.......

nothing. not a damn thing. oh apart from my uterus looks a bit 'bulky' whatever that means. so now i still have the same probs but no idea whats causing them so they advised me to go back to GP and be re-referred somewhere else. its getting me down now. aaarrrrrgh!

OP posts:
mazmack · 22/11/2007 16:24

when I first had fibroids they could only be seen with an internal ultrasound scan - did they try that?
