Colonoscopy prep question

Hi.

I have a colonoscopy appointment for 7am on Monday morning. The instructions say to take the first dose of prep at 9pm on Sunday night and the second at 5am on Monday. Surely this can’t be right? I’m a bit worried about taking the second dose two hours before I’m due at the hospital. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.

Are you sure that’s not the instructions for an afternoon appointment?

DramaAlpaca · 11/06/2021 17:59

I agree with @Everydayisawindingroad. The instructions usually (IME anyway) have two lots of timings, depending on whether you have a morning or afternoon appointment.

I've name changed for this.
I had one recently.
Fasting from midday the day before, I had to take 3 litres of prep from 3 pm up to about 11 pm. Shock
I then had to wake up at 4 am and drink another litre. Up and down to the loo then Shock
I had to be in the hospital at 8 am and went down to the theatre at 10.30 am.
I'm in Ireland. No NHS.
I was a private patient - I have health insurance.

Good luck

Yes, I think they’ve sent me the instructions for an afternoon appointment by my mistake. When I’ve had colonoscopies before, they’ve sent two sets of timings (one for an afternoon appointment, one for a morning appointment), but not this time. They’ve just sent an information sheet saying first dose at 9pm on Sunday, second at 5am Monday. It just doesn’t seem right.

I’m thinking of taking 1st dose on Sunday morning and 2nd on Sunday evening. Just hope this will be OK

You can call the number for medical information in the box to ask the company and they can tell you the times based on the product. Or some of the preps have websites where you can put the time of your appointment and it will gov enough the times.

@ohnocolonoscopy can I ask what type of prep you had please

I think my prep for an am appt was around 4pm first dose, 9pm second dose.

I'm not 100% sure but I think
It was Klean Prep.

Those instructions sound exactly correct for a morning appointment. I had one yesterday, and took one dose of Moviprep between 7 and 8pm the night before, then another dose between 5 and 6 the morning of the procedure. I went in at 9h15, and was out again by 11h30.
I had a general anaesthetic (not in the UK), and really the whole thing was a lot easier than I had anticipated.
Drink the prep as cold as possible, through a straw. I had a very restricted diet (low-residue) for three days before, as well.

Anyone not been able to take all the prep in 2 hours? I’m over 2 hours and only 2/3 of lucky though. Followed the tips of making it cold etc and chasing down with another drink but I feel so waterlogged and it’s disgusting to drink. Plus nothing is happening yet
