My liver tests are getting worse and now being sent for a scan. Doctor seems to think it could be some long term medication that I have been taking.

My husband (44) is in the same problem now. He started his biologics ( Humira) for PsA since Aug 2020 and his liver enzyme tests are abnormal since Nov 2020.. he was asked to stop medication and they apparently got a little better but again his last bloods (5 days ago) showed elevated again... he says his nurse is going all stressed.

He is overly optimistic and wont let me know exactly whats happening. All he got is some tiredness apart from that he looks normal. His tests are very abnormal.
I am very stressed as I am a sahm although for now we are ok but due to his liver problems future finance anxiety is causing havoc in me ( I am an anxious person which makes it worse).

Sorry I am not much help to you but just wanted to say you are not alone. I hope you get better answers here soon :).

Look up drug induced liver injury (DILI)
Good luck

Look at hemochromatosis as well - causes iron to build up and affects the liver.

Friend's DH has got cirrhosis from prescription medication. She deserves a medal for tolerating all the "oh I never knew he was an alcoholic" comments Sad

What is it that you’re in OP?

I’ve just been prescribed another medication for arthritis and honestly just reading the warnings regarding liver toxicity and damage is enough to put anyone off!

Is this methotrexate by any chance?
Bagelsandbrie · 06/08/2021 20:52

Happens to a lot of people with lupus - most of the lupus drugs such as methotrexate can cause liver damage, that’s why they’re so funny about giving you regular blood tests especially at the start of treatment. Usually you can swap to another treatment after a break whilst your liver can repair / recover. It’s difficult though, like so many things it’s a balance between the risks and the benefits. Often the liver can be damaged by lupus itself, or other autoimmune conditions so it’s not always as clear cut as it first seems in many cases.

custardbear No, they’ve just taken me off that as I suffered with side effects that wouldnt settle and they’ve now prescribed Leflunomide - but like all of these drugs, when you read up on them they really are so toxic.
