Anyone start to get this when approaching peri menopause?

Cycles have gone from 28 days to 26 and then 24!

Thank you.

Yes absolutely. Now down to about 21 on average occasionally shorter. Seems typical I think!

EssexLioness · 01/06/2021 20:37

Mine used to be every 28 days, no fail. Now anything from 21-38 days.

Tanfastic · 01/06/2021 22:13

Yes me, I used to be about every 30 days or so but I'm about 26 days now and although they don't last that long they have got heavier.

nolovelost · 01/06/2021 22:14

Oh wow! I did read that they can go longer but also shorter which did surprise me, so that's why I thought I'd see how common it was.

How long have they been doing that for?

Thank you for the replies.

Yes mine are short, about 3-4 days. But I was on the depo for years, on and off, so didn't have periods. It's many years since I've had a week long bleed anyway. They do seem to be quite heavy now.

I'm very forgetful too (more so recently), but I was quite a forgetful person anyway.

mine have gone from 28 days to about 21. ..were heavier but that may have been done to a fibroid now hopefully dealt with!

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 01/06/2021 22:50

I'm 42 - mine have recently gone from 28 days like clockwork to 23.

It's actually making me feel very sad, it's really brought home the end of one phase of my life.

ThankYouDebbie · 01/06/2021 22:55

Snap. In my 30s I was v regular 28 day cycle. At 45 I'm at 24 days. It makes me feel like it's always my period Sad

Plus this month I've had night sweats and flooding- yay!

EarringsandLipstick · 01/06/2021 22:58

Yes. Once I hit early 40s I all of a sudden went to 26 day cycles, occasionally 25 after always being regular-as-clockwork 28. Periods became light & short which sounds good but the PMT is horrific, and the symptoms during the period itself are brutal.

Now 45 & beginning the conversation with my GP about HRT (Ireland-based)

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 01/06/2021 23:14

I’m a lot more forgetful than I used to be. I seem to be quite tired a lot of the time. My cycle is definitely more unreliable than it used to be. Could be a combination of diet and lack of exercise I suppose. Possibly not though.

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 01/06/2021 23:19

I also went to 21 days, with horrible flooding. This lasted for 3 or 4 years before I started occasionally skipping one. Haven't had one in six months now - hurrah!

Libelula21 · 01/06/2021 23:19

This is worrying me a wee bit. I’m 46 and my period is anything from 17 days to 94 days. It’s been like that for 2 years - I’ve never been only slightly irregular. I’m assuming it’s the perimeno, but perhaps also impact of bereavement and pandemic.

stressfuljune · 01/06/2021 23:20

Yep

stressfuljune · 01/06/2021 23:22

My closest pattern is 3 weeks and then a flood

I am 43 now and I first started noticing changes aged 40. They went from 5 days down to 4 days of bleeding. They also became much lighter but more painful. Had to get meds from GP. But the changes in length of cycle has only happened in the last year/ 18 months. They are all over the place now
nolovelost · 05/06/2021 13:07

Thanks for all the comments, I'm sorry that people are suffering and it sounds like I've got the worst to come...

My periods used to be irregular and heavy and painful. The past few years they have gotten lighter, shorter, barely painful and the cycle has shortened from regular as clockwork 28 days to 21-24 days.

I’m happy my periods are easier to handle for now but the other symptoms can do one. I don’t know if I’m coming or going and my boobs hurt all month long!

Gemlina1 · 06/08/2021 16:45

Hi all I am 37 and have had symptoms for the last three years. I can’t even begin to describe how badly I’ve suffered. However, one thing that I would like to know is if anyone of you find that after you’ve missed a cycle it makes all the symptoms the next cycle so much worse? I am finding it so hard to get a gp to listen to me because of my age.
