What could 38C temperature but not sick be?

Hi I am a bit concerned as my temperature has been over 38 C For a whole week but I don’t otherwise feel unwell and my covid test came back clear.
It was over 39 C after exercise but I didn’t feel unwell. I have had a couple of restless nights this week and am 45 healthy and on the pill - is this peri menopause related or would I see a Dr to get things checked?

Fault thermometer perhaps? What's your temperature normally?

SwimyAlice · 27/05/2021 08:10

Hi @ActuallyIveGotDental
My temp normally is very normal on this thermometer 37C and my OH's temperature is reading his normal 36.8C ish still.
I don't want to waste my GP's time if there's a reasonable explanation but I can't find anything else to explain it other than an infection on Dr Google.

Sorry, I can't think of anything else!

workworkworkugh · 27/05/2021 08:11

Infection?

Honestly you sound overly anxious

Why are you regularly checking your temperature if you feel fine?

Temperature can change depending on time of day, exercise, hormone fluctuations and stress/anxiety. If you're so anxious as to be checking regularly you must well actually be driving your temp and HR up

SwimyAlice · 27/05/2021 08:55

Hi I know I sound anxious, really I'm not! I have to be COVID conscious for my work and they request we take temperature daily and lateral flow tests throughout the week for client and colleague safety. It just seems really odd as I've not had this elevated temp before and wondered if there was another obvious explanation - hence posting on here.

I can't imagine your gp will see you with a high temperature, without a negative covid test.

quinin · 28/05/2021 13:01

Speak to the GP. It could be many things, some serious, lots not but there is something abnormal going on which i would be having a conversation with a doctor about.

SwimyAlice · 28/05/2021 14:07

Thanks @quinin
I have a Drs appt later today and had a PCR covid test this morning as still 38-39C and feeling more generally ropey than before too.

She's had a negative test - it says so in the OP.
quinin · 28/05/2021 19:13

Hope it went ok today and you got some answers.

SwimyAlice · 28/05/2021 19:53

Thanks for asking, I was told lungs were clear, pee showed no abnormalities such as infection, oxygen saturation currently OK and symptoms are either COVID or another random virus (probably). Was sent home with a finger oxygen saturation monitor just in case it is COVID and to watch for Oxygen dropping over the long weekend when the Drs is shut and the timescale is such that's when things can go either way despite not feeling worse.
Was told although the home COVID kits came back clear in the week the test done today in a drive through centre would be more accurate and should get results tomorrow. If positive I'm to sit it out and hope to improve, if negative prob another viral lurgy that body's fighting! If temp still high next Tuesday or other problems arise to go back in for more tests.
I'll post an update soon!

Did you get the results? X

SwimyAlice · 29/05/2021 19:28

hi @HappilyHadesBound,
Yes thankfully I did get a negative back today which is a relief. Finally temperature is falling this afternoon and feeling half way normal this evening. Must have picked up a non-covid virus and maybe set myself back from recovering properly by exercising hard on Tuesday/Wednesday! Hopefully should be back to full speed by next week! Panic over I think!
