Mirena before peri-menopause or during?

I'm 40 and have been on the combined pill for 20 years. I have fibroids, but because of the pill I don't have any symptoms. My GP has said I'll have to come off it by the time I'm 50, or earlier if I develop high blood pressure (runs in the family). She's recommended a Mirena coil instead.

I know when a Mirena is first put in lots of women get spotting or continuous bleeding for the first few months. Is it better to have the Mirena before peri-menopause hits? I think my periods might be very heavy in peri, because of my fibroids and because my mum's were. I'm wondering whether to have it fitted now and hopefully avoid the peri + Mirena effects happening at the same time!

Has anybody had a Mirena fitted in peri-menopause, and has any advice?

I had my first one fitted 5 years ago when I was 45 and peri. Some very light spotting for the first couple of weeks, then nothing at all for the next 5 years. No periods at all either.

(I also had fibroids, and periods previous to it being fitted were getting heavier)

I had my first soon after DC2 was born. I was 40 and suffering from huge bleeds and clots. I was told the alternative would be a hysterectomy. Not menopausal at that point as I continued having regular but light periods until I was 52. (Never heard the term peri menopause until recently on MN).
It was a life changer. Very light periods, no pain. I went on to have two more, the last removed at 54 two years after my final period.
