Weird smell, I don't know what it is

For about 2 weeks now, I can smell something weird. I can't even describe it. It is kind of a chemical smell.
This week I've cleaned the whole house from top to bottom, washed bed sheets everything, to get rid of it.
It's still there.
I can smell it really strong on my clothes, especially my coat and dressing gown- the two things I wear the most, especially around the neck area.
I keep asking dh, he can't smell anything.
Last night I asked him to smell my coat and dressing gown, he can't smell anything, I asked ds (15) he couldn't either, finally ds (9) said he could smell it! My coat was only washed a couple of weeks ago so isn't dirty and my dressing gown is regularly washed. I have refrained from wearing either of them today and I can still smell it. Fresh bed sheets on Monday, I got up in the night last night and when I went back to bed I could smell it on my pillow. I think it is coming from me! What the hell is it?

Following with interest. I think I emanate a strange smell too, at the top of my back.

My digestion/health is quite messed up. How is yours?

BonnyEm · 19/05/2021 12:06

I have generally good health, I am teetering on perimenopause so there have been fluctuations in my hormones causing migraines that I'm now being medicated for. Digestion is usually good and I'm very regular sorry tmi. But again due to hormones, have been having monthly flare ups of acid/ heartburn, that usually lasts a few days.

Oh I’m well into peri (at the very least). I’ve had years of wonky hormones.

My scalp starts to smell nasty quite soon after washing too. I wonder if my skin is prone to yeast/fungus or something, which would be exacerbated by unbalanced hormones/digestion.

I also suspect leaky gut. Damn, I’m sexy.

I had a friend who had this problem. Turned out to be a sinus infection.

@scottgirl

I had a friend who had this problem. Turned out to be a sinus infection.
I am coming down with a cold but have been fine prior to this. I did test positive for covid back in October. I lost my taste and smell for around 12 weeks . It's not covid related afaik it could may well be sinus related though. It's very unpleasant. I wish it would go.

Do you wear any make up or moisturiser during the day?
I had a similar thing happen but on sunny days I had been spraying my neck area with a spray sunscreen and it must have gone off because by evening time it had turned into weird smell.

feckwit · 19/05/2021 23:30

Have you had a diabetes test?

StormBaby · 19/05/2021 23:31

I smell weird when I’m pregnant and when I ovulate so it could be hormonal

Redannie118 · 20/05/2021 11:03

I have chronic sinusitis and get this all the time. I feel like the smell comes from me and is on my clothes. No one else can smell it, but its horrible and makes you so paranoid. My favourite saying is that I smell like a dead sheep !

Learntoloveyourself · 20/05/2021 11:05

My DH had this weird smell thing going on. It turned out to be type 2 diabetes.

2pointfourmonkeys · 20/05/2021 11:23

Are you sure its not covid related? Ever since i had covid my own odour smells like onions. It comes and goes, i think with my hormones, but some days i make myself feel sick!

NoNobramma · 20/05/2021 11:25

I reckon it’s covid related. Me and my mum and dd had covid around then too and from January have had weird smell issues. Long covid apparently in the absence of other sinus issues which my mum tried treatment for etc.

MrsWooster · 20/05/2021 11:53

If I have a sinus infection of any kind, anything with vinegar in (including ketchup etc) smells disgusting-a foul, chemical smell. I wonder if your cold has made you sensitive to something in your usual perfume or similar?

BonnyEm · 20/05/2021 12:00

I think you could be right with the sinusitis. I had a couple of dizzy spells yesterday which always happen when my sinuses are blocked and due to my cold, I think this is what's causing it.

I had this on and off for a few months from about November. It was horrid, then it just seemed to stop. Never had anything like it before. No cold or illness or ever a sniffle.

Pregnant?
