It's too late now. It is licensed for 12 weeks and whilst some say it may be effective for up to a week after, it's generally best not to rely on that. Sorry! You will need to discuss whether you can have it immediately or need to wait for a negative preg test now.

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 13:46

oh shit

don't panic yet - speak to your GP.

Neverenough · 16/11/2007 13:50

Or your Practic Nurse will be able to advise also. Or a Family Planning Clinic.

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 13:52

will ring docs as soon as they open later

how can i be so BLOODY STUPID?!?! i feel like a sodding clueless teenager We hadn't done anything for MONTHS til then

OP posts:
StrawberryMartini · 16/11/2007 13:53

IT'S EFFECTIVE FOR MONTHS AFTER!!!!!!!!!! I am still trying to conceive a YEAR after last injection. It's EVIL don't have it!!!!! It completely screws up your system and if you ever want to have any more kids then rethink having it please.

StrawberryMartini · 16/11/2007 13:53

There's no way you'll have ovulated.

belgo · 16/11/2007 13:55

aaw - don't feel stupid - it's very easy to forget when you're busy with 4 kids!

girasole · 16/11/2007 13:57

Agree with StrawberryMartini, it was 10 months after I came off depo before I had a period again. No one tells you this before you start having Depo though, or at least they didn't tell me.

StrawberryMartini · 16/11/2007 13:58

Oh if you've already got 4 kids then I doubt you'll want any more!

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 13:58

strawberry i have 4 already. I don't think i will be wanting any more!! even though i am broody as hell i couldn't manage another one!! i got PG with dd2 within a few weeks of coming off depo last time. thats whats worrying me!! I was bleeding the other day like i was having a period, but that stopped and then, well, you know the rest.

hairycaterpillar · 16/11/2007 13:59

dont panic will be fine. stays in your system for yonks but is most effective as a contraceptive if repeated every 12 weeks. use condoms and see GP asap to get next jag.

pirategirl · 16/11/2007 14:01

i had one!!! i don'tknow if it was the cuase, but it tok 3 bloody yrs to get pg after it!!

don't panic, bloody sods law, having not had 'it' then you do now.

When was the 'deed', could you consider the morning after pill?

hairycaterpillar · 16/11/2007 14:03

if i recall right the research shows it takes 9 mths on average after depo for the hormone levels to drop to a point where ovulation would happen (periods do not = ovulation).

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 14:14

last night pirate girl. not sure about morning after pill. guess i will have to.

OP posts:
pirategirl · 16/11/2007 14:15

wel, the m after pill, at least you have the option.

sorry you have to go thru the worry.

CarGirl · 16/11/2007 14:18

tbh I think you will be fine, the morning after pill didn't work for me, I've conceived 3 times at the drop of the hat but it took 9 months for the effects of deepo to wear off from not having a due injection - and I'd only had 3 in total.

Neverenough · 16/11/2007 19:08

There have been cases of pregnancies occurring soon. However yes,in some cases but by no means all, there is a delay in the return of fertility when you stop it.You certainly can't count on it.
Your GP will follow the Family Planning Association guidelines which basically are as I put in my first post to you.

bubblerock · 16/11/2007 19:13

Could you get the implant instead? At least you would be okay for 3 years then and no more jabs in the arse
