Chicken pox advice needed (esp exposure during pregnancy)

I am 23 weeks pregnant and had chicken pox when I was 10.

Dropped DS off at childminders and his little friend their got chicken pox on thursday last week and has gone to childminders today as the spots are all scabbed over.

Questions!!!
If she got them last thursday, and DS was last with her the PREVIOUS thursday (ie two weeks ago tomorrow), would he have got them already if he was going to catch them from her (or from the source where she got them)?

Also, if I have had chicken pox, does that mean I am immune? I think my blood was tested for immunity to chicken pox during my last pregnancy but I can't be certain....

TIA for any advice!

There's a 14-21day incubation period from the time of exposure til the first spots may appear. And the affected child is contagious for 48hours prior to the spots coming out. Theoretically your ds should be ok form his little friend but who knows where the original source came from.
On an upbeat note.... you should be fine. Its the first trimester thats the most important time, and you're well past that. Besides if you had it at 10 you should have good immunity. My ds2 had CP in the summer when I was the same stage pg as yourself, and we were fine.

ds got it when I was around 24 weeks. I'd had it as a child so was told there was no risk.

Your ds could theoretically still be incubating it but chances are he didn't come into contact with her during her contagious period if it was a full week previous. However if there is another child at the child minders who did and they subsequently come out with it then he could be exposed all over again.

Hope that makes sense !

Popsy....not sure about your ds but if you do happen to gt them now, its probably the best time pregnancy -wise. I had them at 26 weeks and was told by a specialist in contagious diseases that it is most risky for baby at the very end of pregnancy. If baby is born whilst mum has them then baby can get a type of viral pneumonia. My ds1 was fine.

I was given an anti-body injection but too late to make a difference to my outbreak - it was pretty awful TBH

Hope you manage to avoid it.

Bit of a faff, but might be worth ringing your m/w or doctor to check your notes about your immunity, if you're not, it's quite a simple blood test and a jab in both 'cheeks'.

My DS contracted chickenpox when i was about 10 weeks pregnant with DD. I had never had chickenpox so was tested (blood test) - had to have injection (both legs) which was supposed to stop me getting it. Christmas day i came out in spots! To be fair, the antibodies lessened the outbreak - i was uncomfortable with itching for about 3 days and completely knocked out for about 3 weeks (altho on a positive note it did stop me throwing up ).
Did some research and found most worrying time was in first (great!) and last trimestre. But it seems that basically there is not enough evidence to say for certain what the effect on the foetus would be. (but due to my worrying i did get my 20 week scan which is something they no longer do in my area).
So to stop waffling, DD came along and it appears it has not affected her at all - i do wonder if she is now immune to it? Time will tell!
On a side note, my Dr said she didn't understand why we don't immunise against chickenpox in this country - it is done in other countries.

thanks folks!

Think i might leave a message for the midwife just to check

SOunds positive though
hope ds doesnt get them - I have been on the sick for 4 weeks and will prbably go back next week and it will be just my luck that i will need to take time off to liik after him!!
