Paler Stools

For the last two weeks my stools have been noticeably paler. More a yellowy brown than the usual dark brown. I have no other symptoms apart from heartburn which I've been taking Gavisgon for and just feeling a bit washed out, although that could be worry. I'm about 4 stone overweight and I am trying to cut back on sugar and fatty foods. My dh recently had a stomach bug and I've been convincing myself that I've caught that from him and that's the reason for the change in colour. I've lost both parents at a young age from stomach and liver cancer and after looking on Google im worrying myself crazy. Liver problems are mentioned but also gluten intolerance. Has anyone else experienced yellow brown stools and what did it turn out to be? I have an absolute phobia of doctors after my mum had a very distressing time but I realise I may have to face my fears. Any advice gratefully received.

I know it's hard but do phone the GP so they can do appropriate tests.

I've just been told I currently have costochondritis and my IBS has flared meaning I have two desperate problems going on.

This morning I had a paler stool and thought oh no. I phoned the doctor as wasn't sure if it was to do with the medication they put me on but she said I should just keep an eye on it and could be down to the fact I haven't really eaten and if I have it's been beige sort of foods.

If it's been going on for 2 weeks ask for a blood test to rule out any infection.

Separate not desperate Blush.

Are you sure it's heartburn and not gallstones? When mine flared once I got pancreatitis too and one of the symptoms was a white poo, but it was like clay, not yellow at all

Also not a doctor so don't go by this but I have hard that antacids can cause paler stools.

BitOfAFaff · 14/05/2021 14:52

Heard* honestly I need to read before I post.

Callywalls · 14/05/2021 14:59

Thanks so much for all taking the time to reply. Yes, I have also read that antacids can cause paler Stools and I'm hoping that this is the case but I'm a terrible worrier. I know I will have to face the GP soon but my mind is running away with itself panicking in case I have to have an endoscopy and other tests. Also, I'm worried what the doctor will say about my weight. I have lose a stone recently and it's been hard work but I'm determined to lose more.

Gaviscon definitely causes pale stools!

picklemewalnuts · 14/05/2021 15:59

You're taking gaviscon.
Gaviscon causes paler stools.
Your stools are paler. No need to worry!

Callywalls · 14/05/2021 16:08

Thanks so much for the gaviscon comments. Does anyone know how long it takes to get out of your system?

I had a pale poo today after taking Piriton, apparently antihistimines can cause it too. I would try not to stress.

Callywalls · 14/05/2021 16:23

Thanks so much for the reassurance, it really means a lot to me. I'll try and lay off the gaviscon and see if there is any change in colour. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply.
