Hey everyone,
Just after some help and advice please. On Saturday night I started with what I thought was a UTI. I couldn’t stop peeing and it was stinging like mad!! Sunday I was obviously tired from been up all night peeing. I didn’t feel 100%. Monday I called the drs and they prescribed me with 3 day antibiotics which I was going to go and get before my children finished school. Got to lunch time Monday and I started to feel so ill. My lower abdominal and back were killing. Had the worst head ache, feeling sick, dizzy, fever, chills, I blacked out at one point. My oh came home and we went straight to A&E. saw a dr there she prescribed me some different antibiotics and said I had a kidney infection. Tuesday I spent the entire day sleeping still feeling awful. Wednesday I wasn’t any better and the dr told me to go back in if I wasn’t any better so went back Wednesday. Saw a different dr she put me on iv antibiotics and took bloods. Bloods came back fine with just sign of infection. She said that if I was to go back they would admit me. I started to feel much better after a few hours. Felt fine all last night at home but again today I feel awful 😞. I’ve never felt so ill in my life. I’m so worried now what is it? Have they given me the wrong antibiotics? Is it kidney stones? Please anyone that’s been through anything similar I would really appreciate your advice.

Didn't want to read and run. Haven't been in your situation with a kidney infection specifically but similar with another infection (post natal).

Please please go back if you still feel so ill. You may need more/different IV antibiotics. I ended up with sepsis and luckily it was caught in time but it can progress very very quickly. I really don't want to scare you but I always encourage everyone to be aware of it after my experience!

FWIW, my mum recently had a kidney infection and she was so poorly with it, she could barely move from the pain so it may well just all be due to the infection but you can never be too careful!

I hope you are past the worst of it soon x

Yep I've had similar and sounds like you need a good few days of mix of IV antibiotics and fluids, sometimes the tablets don't work as well

I was worried about sepsis i did mention it to the dr yesterday but she said not sepsis. They did my bloods. I keep having waves of feeling a bit better then back to feeling awful again 😞. I’m just so fed up of feeling like this.

I had a kidney infection some years ago. The pain was horrific, and the only time I've experienced worse was when my uterus ruptured. I was living alone at the time, and was in too much pain to move from my bed, let alone get to the phone for some hours after it first came on. I eventually managed to get to the bathroom and get a maximum dose of all the different pain killers I had into me, before calling for medical attention. I'm still not sure how I managed to get from bed to bathroom. However, the prescribed antibiotics worked quickly and well once I had them. If you are still feeling unwell you need to go back.

Definitely go back. I had a kidney infection and felt bloody horrendous,

Kidney stones are a bit different. You wouldn't have the pain peeing like you do with a UTI.
Kidney stones plus severe kidney infections can make you pee blood. The pain with stones tends to be more spasm tike as your body tries to get rid of it.
I'm assuming the hospital sent off blood/urine that will advise them of the best antibiotics. Often they take 48-72 hours to kick in.

Take regular paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly. Or you could buy co-codamol/paramol ( instead of paracetamol) plus ibuprofen.

I'm prone to kidney infections and they do make you feel really sleepy and like crap. Go back to your GP if you're feeling truly awful, you may need more IV ABs. I'm the meantime, lots of fluids and avoid caffeine if you can.

Hope you're feeling better soon Daffodil

I think what I need is iv antibiotics for few days. I only had them for a few hours on Wednesday and made a huge difference to how I felt. I’m probably going to go back to A&E when my oh finishes work 😔.
