I'm late 40s perimenopausal, no HRT but not had any significant problems. Going through a very stressful time. Well-managed under-active thyroid.
For the last few weeks I've been dizzy & lightheaded, nauseous, hot & cold flushes, lack of energy.
Suggestions so far are: inner ear crystals, menopause, stress, covid vaccine after-effects... I've just had bloods done and waiting for results but I feel dreadful.
Any suggestions please & thank you.

Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? I had those symptoms last summer, along with joint pains and terrible skin and hair. I was convinced it was either peri menopause or under active thyroid, had blood tests and my vitamin D level was really, really low. I had been getting out in the sun for 30 mins a day too so the dr was unsure why it was so low but both of my siblings have had the same issue so maybe hereditary. I didn't realise it could make you feel so unwell but after several months of very strong vitamin D3 I felt much better and have stayed on them

Thanks HippyChick. I think Vit D will be tested as part of the blood panel. I know it was lowish when it was tested last year; maybe it has got worse. I probably have some Vit D upstairs still. It's worth trying.

It’s menopause/peri menopause.

I was shocked at how ill I felt at times.

If it's very low the ordinary off the shelf supplements won't be enough. I was prescribed some that are normally one a week to take daily for the first month then over the counter ones for another month and now I take strong D3 which are 500iu as well as a multivitamin that contains 200iu. It takes about 3 months of treatment to bring levels up

It's looking like Vit D. Not all the results are up yet, but Vit D is definitely low.
Thanks

That’s similar to the symptoms I’ve been having for months (but with cold and light sensitivity too). Had my bloods repeated, I’ve got a raised white blood cell count but no indication of infection. Having them repeated again next week, not quite sure what to make of it.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 13:25

*had my bloods repeated twice, both times showed higher white blood cell count which is why the additional testing next week.

HippyChickMama · 14/05/2021 18:26

Glad you've got an answer @WhyDoIFeelAwful it really did make me feel unwell but at least it's easily fixable even if it does take a while for your levels to come up

WhyDoIFeelAwful · 23/05/2021 18:38

It's not Vit D or menopause. It's a coincidental short-term illness which should be treated fairly quickly. Don't want to name it as stbxh is a bit of a stalker!
