breast lumpectomy without biopsy

Has anyone done that?
Had a mammogram and ultrasound due to some changes around the nipple.
Doctor said I have lesions on both breasts (in the duct). She said we could wait and see what happens, i.e. if they grow, but becuase my mum died from breast cancer she recommends removing them. She mentioned something about biopsies not being accurate wihtout removing the whole thing and I am booked in to have the procedure (on both breasts) on Wednesday.
But having done some research, I only see biopsy being the first step. She did say that it's likely that they are benign based on how they look but given my family history also likely that they are pre-malignant.
Has anyone else had a lumpectomy wihtout a biopsy?

I’ve had breast lumps totally removed for biopsy yes. Biopsies are only accurate for the tissue they remove so if the bit further over that they didn’t remove is cancerous you get a false all clear.

If your lumpectomies are benign that is the end of it. If cancerous then further surgery may be needed.

Forgot to say good luck,

I’ve had 4 ductile lesions removed now and all have been benign. There are 2 still in situ which are just being monitored
