My partner doesn’t drink so thinks anyone who gets drunk is borderline alcoholic.

In my teens I did party quite a bit but nothing more than ur average 18 year old..

Anyway we have 2 kids I rarely go out with my friends drinking besides birthdays and I’d say around 1-2 a month I will have 1 bottle of wine at the weekend.

When I do drink in the house he makes out like I’m an alcoholic if I finish the full bottle of wine.

Now I’m crazy doubting my self thinking am I an alcoholic if I finish a full bottle of wine?

I have a bottle of wine every Friday night. I also have a couple of vodka based drinks on a Saturday night. I don't drink at other times

My DH doesn't drink (alcoholic MIL) - I drink fri / sat / sun, not to drunk level, just a few drinks but have been known to finish a bottle of wine. My DH never makes me feels bad. I think he likes to see someone who can drink normally... & not be the train wreck MIL is. I think he he likes me being in a better mood too Wink.

What is the reason your DH doesn't drink ?

A bottle of wine once or twice a month does not make an alcoholic. Some people here would argue that's a lot for one sitting, personally I don't think it is. It's 3 large glasses and over the space of several hours that isn't a lot in terms of volume but that's by the by.

The term alcoholism is banded around far too casually on MN. Addiction is a dependency issue. It's allowing other areas of your life to be negatively impacted, sometimes in an extreme way, at the expense of having to have a drink/drugs/sex/gambling whatever. If you're only doing it once or twice monthly that doesn't sound like you.

Your husband may not like to see you drinking but it doesn't make you an alcoholic by a long shot. He sounds controlling.

Thank you all! Glad I’m not going crazy.

He’s grandad was a heavy alcoholic who died due to alcoholism. So he just doesn’t drink because of that he’s parents have a couple of drinks every couple of days and brands them alcoholics.
