Hi
I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid 15 years ago. I have been on Levothyroxine ever since. I have regualr blood tests to check my levels and never have the levels been stable, either being too low or too high (mainly too low) As a result of this (and despite having a healthy diet) my cholesterol level is now very high.
My GP just wants me to take statins to lower the cholesterol but, he does admit that if we can get the thyroid levels stable my cholesterol level should fall accordingly so, that is the route I am choosing to take.
Unfortunately, it's up to me to fight my own corner with regards to this, the GP just dishes out the prescription and doesn't take much interest other than that.
A while a go I read a Thread on MN about thyroid levels and someone mentioned another thyroid drug that is taken alongside Levothyroxine to balance out the T4/T3 (forgive me if i have got that wrong) and i just wondered if that could be what I am lacking. That maybe i need something other than the levothyroxine.
I am desperate to lower my cholesterol without using statins so am turning to you lovely MN'ers for any valuable help and advice you cn give me.
TIA x
