Blood test request for low iron

I’m feeling tired and the same as when I’ve had low iron in the past. I want to request a blood test checking iron levels. Does anyone know whether generally a nurse appointment would be sufficient for this? Appointments at my surgery are like gold dust and go live online at 8am. I’d have more chance of securing a nurse appointment but don’t want to get there and be told I need a doctor.
Thanks

I imagine it would vary depending on the surgery and also your medical history. Why don't you phone them and ask? If you've got an on going relationship with the doctors about various things where booking a blood test wouldn't be unusual then go for it, but in my lengthy experience you'd likely need a doctor to sign it off unless you've already had an appointment and the blood tests are ongoing. Also, the blood tests at our surgery aren't done by a nurse, they're done by a health care assistant who literally does blood tests all day. You only get a nurse if you need something abnormal, like I usually do.

Ask the receptionist. At our surgery you would be expected to speak to a doctor first for them to request the test.
