Any idea what this rash is?

Last winter I noticed a rash on my chest and also my neck. I didn't think much of it. It wasn't sore or itchy. I was wearing a particular necklace sometimes and I was wearing a new woollen scarf so I thought maybe it was a reaction to either one of them. I stopped wearing them for a few months now but the rash is still there.

I don't usually wear crew neck clothes to my neck so I doubt it's a reaction to a washing powder. I like to wear v neck or lower down/scoop neck and layering so I don't have clothes covering the area all the time.

I shower about 2/3 times a week so I don't think it is soap related.

It's not sore or itchy and because of that I dont feel I have to go to the doctor with it. I think an over the counter cream would be more than enough if I was to figure this out.

I don't have the rash any where else on my body. Just on my chest and neck. I noticed the rash on my chest last October or November. The rash on my neck followed in December and they stayed.

I find it all bizarre. I will go to the doctor if I have to.

Any idea what this rash is?

I would get that seen to, as it looks unusual and you'll need to get it cleared up. Could get infected. Is your health ok, any unusual symptoms?

BlueOceanWave · 06/05/2021 13:45

My health is OK. There's no unusual symptoms and I don't feel like I am run down. I am not suffering from colds like I used to before.

Thanks for the reply. I will make an appointment with the doctor. I thought after making this post that maybe it could be the zip in my jacket. I don't usually pinch my skin with the zip but I do wear it at different levels. That could possibly be one thing that could contribute but I doubt it.

I did buy a box of washing powder last October and it was a big box. I'm now coming to the end of that big box of powder. I suppose the rash appeared around about the same time so maybe perhaps it could be the washing powder. I don't think it is though because the rash is only located here and no where else on my body. Unless if I have a rash on my back that I haven't noticed or seen because it's on my back.

I do think it is different rashes. The chest rash show in October. The rash on the neck, I think maybe it could be a nickel allergy/rash but I can't be certain. I'm not able to wear nickel. I was wearing a necklace but I don't know what it was made from but it was a cheapie necklace. I'm not wearing that any more though.

I never got covid by the way. I know a rash can appear sometimes with covid.

I don't think it'll be from the zip or necklace, the rash is too broad. ( I have an allergy to metal....and to everything in the world it seems!!). Maybe the powder? The doc will be able to tell what sort of rash it is and whether it needs testing.

Actually if it was the powder, you'd be itchy in a another place, probably.

I hear you loud and clear about that itch. I'm not suffering from an itch. Sometimes I do but it's more around the time of my period or during my period. There's no itch as such.

A dog came into my life last October. Not my dog but another persons dog. I see him most days and I am always going in for cuddles. I'm not trying to diagnose myself but I'm wondering could this be dermatitis, perhaps an allergy to the dog fur? I'm not usually allergy to pets or animals and this is a hairy dog.

I'm just thinking if this was an allergy maybe it's not the most obvious things like powders and jewellery. Perhaps the dog fur could be a contributing factor.

Ahhh...I'm allergic to dogs saliva, has it been licking you there??

Laquila · 06/05/2021 19:01

Have you tried antihistamine to see if that helps?

I've had rashes before from bio laundry powder and they were quite localised, for no apparent reason, even though I was using it on all clothes.

I'm also allergic to nickel but that seems to come and go - it does seem a large area for a nickel reaction though.

Do you dye your hair? I had something not dissimilar a year or two back and after standard and cosmetic patch testing, the derm determined it was an allergy to PPD, which is in the vast majority of hair dyes.

BlueOceanWave · 06/05/2021 19:11

I had a dog before and she loved licking me and I wasn't allergic to her saliva or fur. She was short haired.

The new dog is not mine, he likes to like me and I let him. Not usually every day and not usually on my neck. It's more on my hand. There's no rash on my hand.

The rash on my neck is more pronounced so that's why I think it might be from the necklace. I had a terrible habit of sleeping in it too. I'm not wearing that now since January really so if it was that surely it would be cleared up by now. The necklace I had had two hooks for adding mask loops so the nickel was all over that area.

I don't use hair dye.

I do use hairspray but that's not every day either and I never heard of an allergy to hairspray.

I will start on an antihistamine tonight to see if it helps clear it up. I ordered some emollients and other over the counter creams. I would like to try the over the counter stuff for a week before I try the doctor. I never looked after this rash. I would like to try now before I go to the doctor.
