Embarrassing bum problem

Very embarrassed to be posting this, but I would be very grateful if anyone who's had any similar experiences could give me any advice/an opinion!

The issue is bum bleeding after going to the toilet. It's been on and off for months. Before, it's been bright red blood on the toilet paper when wiping, but now it seems worse. I've been to my gp, been prescribed anusol for piles and had a stool sample sent off which came back normal.
The last 2 days I've found it's a lot worse - a lot of bright red blood in the toilet bowl and a large amount of bright red blood on the paper. I was actually a bit shocked by how much there was on the paper.
I don't know if there's any point in going back to the gp and if it's something that just needs to go away by itself.
Has anyone experienced similar, or maybe come across this sort of thing at work and thinks there's something I ought to do/ask for?
Thank you!

My husband has internal piles and has had this for years. He says when he goes to the loo its like Texas Chainsaw massacre and theres so much it goes up the wall ! There is an op you can have done to stop the bleeding, i would go back to GP as this amount of blood loss isnt good. In the meantime get some witch hazel and stick it in the fridge. Try and wash your bum rather than wipe it if you can and dab the cold witch hazel on. Its very soothing and can help shrink external piles( but wont help much with internal)

@Redannie118 thank you! It is a bit of a shock when you see it! I was partly so surprised because I hadn't had any pain so I wasn't expecting it at all. The amount of blood probably looks worse than it really is but it's not good to be loosing it! I think it might involve some sort of investigations which I was really hoping to avoid!

Please go to the doctor. I really hope it's piles (not nice at all but not serious), but it can be a symptom of bowel cancer. Less likely but much better to be sure.

I've had this for years, due to piles, since having dc

I have had this and it is piles, but go to the doctor about it - as pp says it should be checked out to rule out anything sinister.

thinkIamdone · 04/05/2021 19:35

It needs looking at. I had similar and within a few weeks had a endoscopy and diagnosed piles.

Thank you everyone! I think it probably is just piles, it's just a shock when you see a lot of blood! I will definitely still contact my doctor about it though.
