Cervical cancer concerns

I'm a little worried as I recently had my smear test and results have come back that I'm hpv positive. I was reassured it would clear up the hpv in about 2 years but my worry is that I haven't had a sexual partner in about 3 years so if my last partner gave it to me then why hasn't it cleared up?

I have the coil and in the last 2 years I have started bleeding which never happened before while on the mirena coil. I'm due to change it this December. I also have constant discharge and now have to wear a liner every day and the discharge is usually cream to a brownish color and have been bleeding in-between periods. Yesterday, I noticed a foul smell and a quick google search says it can't be thrush, bv or a yeast infection because I have no itch or pain. it can't be an STI as I haven't had a sexual partner in about 3 years.

Anyone been screened for cervical cancer but felt they had reason to worry even if the screening showed no cancer.

Hpv can stay in your body for decades and can flare up, so you could have it one year and then not have it the next but then have it 5 years later for example even if you've slept with no one else
As for the bleeding I would get that checked out though im sure it's nothing to worry about . There a many other reasons which are not cancer but just go and see what it is

I screened positive for HPV despite not being sexually be active for over 3 years.
My previous smear when I was sexually active with a long term( 13+years) partner was negative.
Confused
I think I must have had it for decades.
I currently have Cin1/2 changes too.

Spied · 04/05/2021 18:12

I was told that it was likely the hpv would clear and cin changes would very likely revert to normal.
I cannot understand how they think this when I must have had hpv infection for much much longer than it usually takes for the infection to clear.
It's just madnesses.

Madness.
(It actually is driving me mad)

@Spied treatment for abnormal cells is so so so common . I know loads of women who've been through it . I'm sure there are many cases which clear up on their own and I hope to god mine does this time. I had cells removed in 2010 and have been fine since and then tested positive again last year .

Spied · 04/05/2021 18:22

@fedup078
Do you know if you can have cells removed more than once? (Lletz/Loop)

fedup078 · 04/05/2021 18:23

@Spied yeah I know people who've had it done more than once

Spied · 04/05/2021 18:29

Thanks @fedup078.
It's reassuring in a horribly warped kind of way to hear that a lot of women go through this.
I'd sincerely hope your infection clears.

fedup078 · 04/05/2021 18:30

@Spied thanks I hope you have no more issues after yours is sorted too
