Anyone else have random twitches?

Over the last few days I seem to have loads of random twitches and it's really annoying. A few days ago I had twitches in my back whenever I sat at my desk. Today and yesterday it's in different places in my leg whenever I sit on the sofa.

What is it?? It's not painful, just a bit irritating. I've got some general lower back aches (from being fat and unfit I think). I'm also in an early menopause and take HRT.

I think I've had this before and then it goes and I forget about it.

For some reason I'm panicking and diagnosing myself with MND or something.

Anyone else?

Benign fasciculation syndrome? I have had this for 20 years, comes and goes . Sometimes I can actually see my muscles moving under the skin. Never caused a problem, and totally painless. It’s like fairy lights twinkling in the body,

I would also suggest bfs. Have you had anything viral/COVID recently? I have had this since I was 20 after glandular fever and dr said that was the trigger.

No rhyme or reason as to what makes it flare up except more likely when I'm tired.

With all things check with gp of course but bfs is a lot more common than mnd.

I developed them after a period of stress. They appear when I'm most relaxed, unhelpfully. I concluded it's the benign syndrome thing, after all the scary google searches.

Yeh I have muscle spasms fairly often and it is very irritating! I've never actually done at research about it so I'm off to Google BFS

sundaylunday · 02/05/2021 21:08

Interesting. Have never heard of that condition.

I've not had anything viral or covid. Just my vaccinations. Otherwise quite well. Quite tired as my hospital is really busy at the moment.

Weirdly, when I forget about it, it goes away. But when I think about it or worry about it, it Ramps up a lot. I know stress causes them so me worrying I might have MND probably isn't helping!

It's very unlikely to be MND and much more likely to be something benign.

But with anything if you have concerns consult a GP.

My ds had this and we actually went through seizure testing etc because his was so bad at night while limbs moved!

He does actually have a muscular disorder (HSP) and so takes medication now to control it. But have to have separate sofas because sharing with him is like chilling with a pneumatic drill 🤣

Mine happen when I'm most physically relaxed (certainly not mentally relaxed!) so it only happens when I'm sitting down not when moving etc.

Yep. I have them. I've got MS.

Titsywoo · 02/05/2021 21:35

Yes I get them all the time. Twitches are a later symptom of MND not an early one so it won't be that. I get them worst when tired or stressed especially in my eye or arm.

Chewbecca · 03/05/2021 10:26

I get them when I am really tired. Have done for many years.
