DD has (and can be) a pain in the bum

DD1 (2.10) has been complaining on and off now for a few weeks of a sore bum - she describes it as a 'quick' pain. she can be sitting/standing fine and all of a sudden grabs her bum and says it's sore. there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it - needing to poo, not needing to poo, or time of day.

i took her to gp who couldn't find anything wrong but prescribed some cream in case it was thrush

she has a fairly good diet - lots of fruit and veg, whole grains, drinks plenty fluids. doesn't appear to be straining when doing a poo, is regular. i've looked for worms but don't see anything. she's been out of nappies since may and has been dry at night for about 8 weeks.

anyone any ideas? before i get another gp appointment

TIA

When dd1 was moaning about a pain in her bum she had a water infection (she got confussed with her bum and her vagina)

she definitely grabs her bum - and when asked she always points to her anal area. but i'll try and get a urine sample and get it checked just in case.

Threadworms?

Wisteria · 14/11/2007 11:46

I get a shooting pain there quite often, no idea what causes it but it's very painful (always thought it may be the onset of piles), sorry nothing useful to add but interested in case you get an answer!

How could it be thrush??

3littleforgs - i can't see anything both at her bum and after she's done a poo - have checked several times even (TMI alert) breaking up the poo to have a look.

wisteria - i wondered about a fistula. i queried the thrush with the GP too, she just said 'it could be' so that's the first and the last time that i will have an appointment with her.

think i'll make another appointment with another GP.

thrush can feel like a 'nipping' pain. can be sudden - like a sudden nip

is she toilet trained? does she scratch her bum?

My2Weegirls · 14/11/2007 12:23

yeah she's been out of nappies since may and dry at night for about 8 weeks now.

i've been very fortunate and never had thrush but for some reason i thought you only got it around the vaginal/vulval area rather than anal area.

she doesn't scratch more grabs at it when it's sore and wants me to look at it (pulls her pants down and lies down on the floor for me to look at it - lovely!).

some info

i really think it could be thrush

you can get thrush anywhere on your body - its a fungal infection

my dd1 gets thrush. she is 5 and likes to go to the toilet on her own but she doesnt wipe properly (or wash her hands grrrrrrr!) and what i do is use toilet wipes THEN toilet tissue
a. to get her bum clean
b. to make sure its dry (thrush loves moist warm)

let her run about with a bare bum for a while to dry the area

it might not be but its the first thing id rule out

good luck!

thank you

oh she'll love running round with a bare bum!
