I’m so constipated 😩

I normally have ibs diarrhoea but I started keto last week and since then Iv been so constipated! My stomach is so bloated, my bum hurts from trying to go and my stomach hurts from straining. I feel so sore upto above my belly button. I managed a few rabbit size droppings in the last few days but I have spent the last few days crying on the toilet pushing like I’m giving birth.

Help 😩😩😩😭

Lactulose is your friend. If its really bad a glycerin suppository will clear your pipes.

Milk of magnesia will sort you out. Two capfuls, couple of pints of water. There will be gurgling, lots of it, but also a clear out, which is what you need.

I have IBS, and the keto diet was all kinds of awful. I tried it for a month. I alternated between diarrhoea and constipation throughout. I also had stomach pain the whole time. It was not good.

OP! Me too, me too! I always had a constant upset stomach but am also doing keto and am horribly constipated. I've tried the magnesium, Himalayan sea salts, drinking loads. Thing is I feel great and am losing weight, but am literally going to the toilet once a week. And it hurts!!!

You can't do prune or fruit juice on keto.

I suspect you aren't eating enough vegetables. Or low carb fibre in general. Try a teaspoonful isphagula husk / powder mixed into yoghurt, maybe add some seeds or nuts to disguise the texture a bit. Add some cacao powder, spices, or vanilla. Follow with a big drink, then at least another 3 over the next 4-5 hours. I have this most afternoons. I'm on a LCHF diet, & have IBS. I really struggled at first but since introducing the isphagula husk & also increasing my probiotics, I haven't had any problems.

Looking for a safe effective laxative and saw your comment, the results you describe from milk of magnesia sound perfect, how long does it take to work? Excuse the Dm but need a BM, it's been 3 days.. so annoying! X

I use bromelain capsules, it is an extract of the pineapple plant and is great for inflamatory conditions as well so I use it for joint pain and constipation. I've always had problems and found other remedies either didn't work or caused me alot of discomfort. Bromelain does work for me and I get no pain with it.

If you are on keto going forwards then eat celery. A lot! Very few carbs in it and full of fibre. No constipation possible when eating a lot of celery!
