Hello I am going for a ultra sound tomorrow and need to go in with a full bladder. Does anyone know what to expect and will they tell me the results there and then?

Thanks

I had one of these recently. The ultrasound lasts about five minutes and is only uncomfortable because you will be dying for a wee.

After that I had to go and empty my bladder for the vaginal scan. This doesn't hurt at all. It's like a probe with a condom on. Honestly it wasn't even uncomfortable.

I was told the results straightaway but my friend who had similar had to wait for results from her GP

YellowColour · 28/04/2021 21:14

Sorry presuming it's not a pregnancy scan. If it is then it will just be the ultrasound which is slightly uncomfortable but nothing you can't handle.

Everyone’s different. I have been sexually active for almost a decade and speculum exams still really hurt and cause bleeding for me

Transvaginal swabs actually hurt less as the probe is quite thin

If you’re nervous/uncomfortable let the staff know when you enter. There’s many things they can try to help you feel less pain

wingsnthat · 28/04/2021 21:17

Also I had to wait months for my results because there was nothing wrong with me, but the nurses at my appointment were pretty confident of that although they didn’t explicitly say that to me. If it’s serious, you’d find out sooner

Hey thank you

I have been bleeding quite a bit, but all smears have been normal, get quite a bit of pain so having this done!

I had one the other week done by a radiologist who talked me through everything she was doing and gave me result straight away. I hear that depending in who does it some people have to wait and get results from GP.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 28/04/2021 22:50

I had one yesterday and the gynecologist talked me through everything she saw.

ReginaaPhalange · 28/04/2021 23:02

I had one last week and she didn't speak to me at all other than to tell me I have to wait 7-10 days for the results. I asked her if she could see anything and all she said was "I'm not looking for anything, I'm just concentrating on taking the pictures and I will review later".

wingsnthat · 28/04/2021 23:06

I think mine was done by a nurse, or staff who weren’t allowed to interpret the results to me. I had to wait for the gynae consultant to review the images which took a solid 3 months “due to COVID”

GP wasn’t involved as gynaecology referral

YellowColour · 29/04/2021 07:21

My friend had a lot of bleeding also OP and hers turned out to be non-cancerous cysts so try not to worry too much.

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 29/04/2021 07:33

I had a vaginal scan a couple of months ago, the lady doing it said just to put my mind at rest - she couldn't see anything abnormal but that she would review the images and do a detailed report which would be sent to my GP and they would let me know any findings.

emmathedilemma · 29/04/2021 09:14

I think mine confirmed that I had fibroids (as suspected) and that I had a cyst on one ovary that was over what size they want to review them to check it's gone down but the formal report went back to my GP.

Thank you so much for replies

Been today wasn't as bad as expected.

Just got to wait

So spoke to the doctor and because I am still bleeding they have gave me a fast referral to the gynae! The ultrasound was done at the walk in centre.
I am a little scared but the scan went well and nothing really abnormal was shown on scan.

I had a TVU for heavy bleeding. It lasted about 10 minutes as he was very thorough. He managed to spot endometriosis and fibroids. The endo was quite subtle on the scan and I’m really glad I saw someone highly experienced. It didn’t hurt at all. I did cramp afterwards and bled quite heavily but I was at the tail end of my period and not sure scan caused it but it was weird. Anyway, please don’t worry.
