Found a lump

I’ve just come back from the doctors after finding a lump in my mouth a couple days ago, they’ve checked it and said there is a definite lump there, so now they’ve referred me onto the hospital through a cancer pathway referral.

I have a 4yo. I’m at a loss for words now 🥺😢 I’m now terrified of leaving him or being too ill for him, if it is what they think it is.

How do I move this thread to general health?

Use the report button and ask HQ to move it. Flowers it is worrying but try not to dwell on the worst case scenario. It is good that you have been referred quickly and hopefully they will be able to put your mind at rest.

Thank you @bloodywhitecat

I had this about 2 months ago now- had the cancer pathway referral and went to see a breast specialist, it was totally benign so please try not to worry yourself until you’ve been seen! Best of luck xx

Dilbertian · 27/04/2021 17:04

Most referrals under the two-week pathway turn out to be benign. They are not using this speedy pathway because they think it is cancer, they are using it because IF it is cancer the treatment should start asap.

It is a scary wait and many of us have been through it. Try to find opportunities for joy and distraction while you wait.

Recorditnow · 27/04/2021 18:06

I'm on the cancer referral pathway too, they found blood in my poo.

It is hard, I know and your mind will be up and down like a yo-yo (mine has been), but try to distract yourself.

Hopefully we will both soon have some answers.

Hi all, thanks for your responses. I don’t quite know what to say right now as my mind is a bit frazzled but thank you for replying x

Do you have other risk factors that make it more likely it could be something sinister? Drinker, smoker, family history etc? Where is the lump and how large? Did they mention it could be a blocked salivary gland or cyst?

I had a small blister like lump under my tongue once when I saw my dentist. I'd had it twice before and it always went within days. By the time I saw the specialist weeks later, the lump had long gone and he seemed annoyed that the dentist had referred me at all! Keep us posted op x

Flowers take a deep breath. I know it's bloody scary but chances are it's nothing and you'll be fine.

MamaOl93 · 27/04/2021 22:08

@Elouera I smoke, but I’m definitely going to quit now. I’m on edge 🥺 I have family history of cancer but not in the mouth. It’s about the size of a pea just to the left of my bottom inner lip, inside my gum :( will keep you updated. Appointment on the 10th. Thank you x
