What can I take after migraleve?

TheMagicFarawaySea · 24/04/2021 19:41

I took two pink ones at 11am this morning. I'm now certain sure that it's building up again. The box says I can't take any more pinks in a 24 hr period - really?! They're all that works! I have sumatriptan and solpadeine in my medicine cabinet. Or do I just have to suffer? Ive never had to take another before but I can tell it's coming. Any cluster migraine sufferers know what's allowed? I can't work it out, presumably the thing to avoid post-Migraleve is codeine?

Both of those are fine. Had a look though the list of interactions for sumatriptan and it doesn't list any of the ingredients of pink migraleve.

Not sure which version of solpadeine you have but I think they're all some combination of paracetamol or ibuprofen and codeine. Migraleve pink say they're fine to take with ibuprofen, and they actually contain paracetamol and codeine, so as long as you're more than four hours from your migraleve that should be fine.

Utini · 24/04/2021 19:58

I think it must be more buclizine that is the issue, as migraleve says

Maximum dose: 8 tablets (two Migraleve Pink and six Migraleve Yellow) in 24 hours

The yellow ones contain paracetamol and codeine.

Migraine sufferer 30 years plus here...
I use a nasal spray. Imigran. So much better than any tablets I have tried...
Also a game changer was using a first aid cool ice pack - like crystals when activated. Lasts a couple of hours. Pure bliss against the worst side - one side affected is worse for me. Left side. Right side more bearable for some reason.

Thank you! It gets so confusing, this is much appreciated

Never heard of Imigran but I'll be getting some, thanks so much

Yellow migraleve, co-codomol, ibuprofen, ibuprofen with codeine, sumatriptan, aspirin

ILoveMyMonkey · 24/04/2021 20:14

@Aprilshowersandhail
Do you need a prescription to buy Imigran or to you get it over the counter?

TheFairyCaravan · 24/04/2021 20:18

Imigran is another name for Sumatriptan. You can take that on top of the Migraleve.

Another thing that works really well is 3 soluble aspirin in a class of full sugar coke. That can be as effective as a Triptan. If you’ve not had any migraleve, or any other paracetamol recently, put 1g of soluble paracetamol in it too. That’s part of the treatment plan that the National Migraine Centre gave me.

User27aw · 24/04/2021 20:19

My ds got Imigran on prescription. It didn't really work for him unfortunately.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 24/04/2021 20:50

@TheMagicFarawaySea if it is buclizine that helps then you can get it on a prescription I believe which you could possibly take alongside co codamol. I have spoken to a pharmacist about it because of the restriction of just 2 migraleve pinks.

If you google you will find that the recommended dosage of buclizine is restricted for migraines but for travel/motion sickness you can take a higher dose and repeatedly. Weird.

The pharmacist also told me as an alternative to try "Buccastem" but as the GP has more urgent issues at the minute I haven't been to ask for that yet but I will be doing.

Aprilshowersandhail · 24/04/2021 20:53

Once you have had Imigran prescribed apparently you can get a card to buy it otc after that if required.. Pills make me sick once a migraine kicks in.

Nasal spray has been genius!

You can get a single dose of sumatriptan tablets (same active ingredient) over the counter, but need a prescription for larger quantities.

I'm fairly sure you need a prescription to get the nasal sprays.

SpaceshiptoMars · 24/04/2021 21:02

Longer term solution - vastly increase green veg consumption. If you drink some raw spinach juice, that can shift your gut quickly and dump the migraine with it.

Aprilshowersandhail · 24/04/2021 21:03

I have mine on repeat.. Receptionist is great if I need one the same hour!

TheMagicFarawaySea · 24/04/2021 21:07

@OnTheBenchOfDoom thanks for this - yes it must be the buclizane that works for me as sumatriptan does bugger all, codeine and paracetamol meh. It's only ever pink Migraleve that seems to work. That's so weird re the travel sickness

@SpaceshiptoMars Funnily enough I do normally do this mon-thurs but this week I've had my period and just felt rubbish so I've neglected myself. And here we are...migraine!

This^^ re soluble Aspirin, 900 mgs. It’s what a Neurologist advised me after I was hospitalised with the worst migraine ever (4 days of relentless pain and vomiting) It works brilliantly!
TheMagicFarawaySea · 24/04/2021 21:13

@TheFairyCaravan I'm bookmarking this for next time. Invaluable!

tonystarksrighthand · 24/04/2021 21:17

Yep I second 900mg Aspirin, glass of full sugar coke, 2x pink migralieve, cool aid pack and sumatriptan

YanTanTethera123 · 24/04/2021 21:20

Ps I have tried everything but aspirin cracked it!

ILoveMyMonkey · 24/04/2021 21:22

@Siepie thanks, I’ve had some Sumatriptan which made me feel weird so haven’t taken them since. Shame the nasal spray is the same active ingredient.

@Aprilshowersandhail thanks for the info.

HappyThursdays · 25/04/2021 08:42

I always keep full fat coke in our cupboard for this reason! It's incredible how quickly it works!
